TVB Announces Anniversary Award Nominations

The TVB Anniversary Awards Presentation is scheduled to take place on January 19, 2025. The station held a press conference to announce the nominees.

The fight for Best Actress is fierce with Tavia Yeung (楊茜堯) and Rosina Lam (林夏薇) nominated for Darkside of the Moon <黑色月光>; Nancy Wu (胡定欣) for No Return <巾幗梟雄之懸崖>; Yoyo Chen (陳自瑤) for Happily Ever After? <婚後事>; Mandy Wong (黃智雯) for In Bed With A Stranger <再見．枕邊人> and Kelly Cheung (張曦雯) with nominations for three different dramas.

Kelly shared she is delighted to have three dramas in the running. This is a fruitful year no matter what the awards outcome would be. Most confident in her performance in Big Biz Duel <企業強人>, Kelly hoped fans would focus their voting efforts there.

Nancy is also nominated for Best Host and Best Theme Song. Talking about her nominations, Nancy choked up as she was touched by the atmosphere. It triggered many of her experiences over the years. Asked if her boyfriend would vote for her and whether dating has helped her career, Nancy replied, “How can he not vote for me? When it comes to career, I’ll work hard and help myself.”

Yoyo also burst into tears on stage saying, “I’ve waited 20 years for the chance to be nominated [for Best Actress].” Noting that she was nominated before in an ensemble drama with many leads, Yoyo felt that Happily Ever After? represented a new milestone.  Asked if she felt confident, Yoyo replied, “I can’t say that I don’t have any confidence, but this year’s competitors are honestly too strong. Tavia’s performance was god-level. When we were filming Beyond the Realm of Conscience <宮心計>, she was the empress and I was her maid. Once the empress came out, I as her maid just disappeared.” Yoyo also felt slightly at disadvantage since her drama aired at the beginning of the year. Prompted whether she would ask her husband Vincent Wong (王浩) and their daughter to vote for her, Yoyo replied, “Yes, you know what to do.”

In the Best Actor category, Joel Chan (陳山聰) and Vincent Wong (王浩信) were nominated for two dramas. Moses Chan (陳豪) and Shaun Tam (譚俊彥) were nominated for Big Biz Duel. Moses joked he did not have a chance to hold his award for long and now he has to give it to another actor. He felt neutral about this year’s awards and was happy to have won it before. Shaun stated the competition is fierce but is confident in the drama, his fans, and himself.

Asked whom they thought would win Best Actress, Moses replied the two female leads from Big Biz Duel performed very well. “However Tavia is really good. Her drama is definitely fierce competition, but I don’t dare say we are their fierce competitor.”

Many have been pushing for Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) to win for his role in No Regret where he played a character with three personalities. However, netizens were unhappy to learn Edwin was surprisingly only nominated for Best Supporting Actor in Broken Trust <神耆小子>.
