Dante Lam Begins Filming “To The Fore” With Eddie Peng

After months of intense bicycling training, the cast and crew of To the Fore <破風> commenced filming this past weekend. To The Fore is directed by Dante Lam (林超賢) and stars Taiwanese actor Eddie Peng (彭於晏), Chinese-Canadian actor Shawn Dou (竇驍), Korean actor Choi Siwon (崔始源), and mainland Chinese actress Wang Luodan (王珞丹).

To The Fore was first announced in March, but pre-production details have mostly been kept under wraps. The movie is billed as a sports-romance movie that focuses on the friendships and love lives of the four leads. Since all four characters are avid cyclists, the lead actors had to undertake extremely grueling training, often cycling 75 miles a day.

At the filming commencement ceremony, director Dante Lam expressed much gratitude toward To The Fore’s cast for putting aside so much time to practice. According to him, the actors would even schedule additional training sessions by themselves in order to more accurately portray professional cyclists.

“Everyone has really put in their all!” Dante said. “When we practiced before, there were a lot of injuries. Now, when I look at their legs and hands, they all have different degrees of scars.”

At the event, executive producer Candy Leung (梁鳳英) stated that she hoped To The Fore would be able to reach 300 million RMB at the box office, causing the cast to feign shock. Lead actor Eddie Peng even pretended that the golden bricks he was holding were too heavy. In the end, the audience agreed that the bricks should be placed on Dante’s head and shoulders, since he would shoulder the burden of the box office results.

To The Fore is scheduled to film in Kaohsiung, Hualien, and Taichung. The movie had previously hoped to team up Eddie Peng with Taiwanese actor Ethan Ruan (阮經天), but the latter was forced to pull out due a previous injury.

  2. Hope Dante Lam mention or portray the temptation of “doping” (sic Lance Armtrong) but these cyclists refrained from the urge to maintain the sanctity of the sport and their beliefs of being the best through perseverance, dedication and grueling and intensive training.

  3. Shawn Dou was wonderful in “Under the Hawthorn Tree” movie. I can’t wait to see him in this movie.
