Gong Li Pockets $40 Million HKD for “The Monkey King 2”
Failing to win Best Actress at the 51st Golden Horse Awards, Gong Li (鞏俐) criticized the event to be meaningless and vowed to never participate in the awards again. Despite her controversial behavior, Gong Li’s status did not waver as she will be compensated $40 million HKD for the upcoming The Monkey King 2 <西遊記之孫悟空三打白骨精>.
Born to Be Queen
The Monkey King, which starred Donnie Yen (甄子丹), grossed over 1.53 billion RMB in box office sales. Previously portraying the Bull Demon King in the first installment, Aaron Kwok (郭富城) is promoted to playing the Monkey King in the sequel due to Donnie’s unavailability. Aaron has been training secretly for months to prepare for the physically strenuous role.
The Monkey King 2 is Gong Li’s first fantasy film. Portraying the villainous and scheming White-Skeleton Demon while sporting 12 different lavish looks, Gong Li said, “Everything seems very refreshing and interesting. I hope my version of the White-Skeleton Demon will give off a queen-like aura!”
The Monkey King 2 invited the 3D effects team from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit to aid the production crew. The cast will be filming in Wuxi and New Zealand. The film is scheduled to release during Lunar New Year in 2016.

She didn’t specify what she found unprofessional about the Golden Horse awards. When the best actress was announced, Gong didn’t appear upset and graciously applauded. Could it have been in reference to Ella’s embarrassing lap-sitting antics and poor emceeing?
What was unprofessional was the director of the show basically hinted(on stage) she did not win before it was announced.
she should have easily won that award.
She only lost the award because Joan Chen who is her arch enemy was heading the panel of judges. She lost by one vote. You can guess who made sure she didn’t win.

The first Monkey King wasn’t even that good. I felt asleep half way in.
I think stephen chow’s version was better.
I can’t stand her acting. It’s always the same. Sad face, with a drop of tear down the face, then millions in her pocket! Seriously? It’s like she can’t do anything else but look sad. And it’s just her face. She’s blessed with a sad looking face. It’s all it is, a sad face with a drop of tear, and applause from audience. I watched her from her red lantern days. It’s BEEN THE SAME THROUGHOUT THE YEARS. No improvement! Wait, maybe there is, cleavage from the chyrsanthemum movie. Oh gawd, but it’s still the sammmmmmme sad face. NO RANGE whatsoever. =((((((
