Kenneth Ma Believes in Living a Day At a Time

Even though 39-year-old Kenneth Ma (馬國明) has come far in his career, he had not planned for it in any way. He does not believe in thinking too much about things which he has no control of, including his love life.

Kenneth said matter-of-factly,  “I don’t set timings for myself in terms of my love life or my career. If I want to get married and have a family, I should be able to do it anytime. I also don’t spend too much time thinking about things that are not within my control. For example, ratings and viewers’ response can go either way so why think so much? Being in the entertainment industry is like running a marathon. As long as you’re still in the race, the results can change any time.” Wise words coming from someone who has been in the industry for more than 10 years and who has experienced numerous highs and lows in his career.

The Tortoise

Back in 2003, when Triumph In the Skies <衝上雲霄> helped launch the career of beginners such as Ron Ng (吳卓羲), Sammul Chan (陳鍵鋒) and Bosco Wong (黃宗澤), it did not do the same for Kenneth. It was only last year when he played the leads in Three Kingdom RPG <回到三國> and The Hippocratic Crush < On Call 36小時> did Kenneth finally get some recognition.

When he was compared to the tortoise in The Tortoise and the Hare fable, Kenneth laughed, “I don’t think I am like the tortoise. At that time, they had contracts so it was within our expectations that they would be heavily promoted.” Even though Kenneth has risen to more prominent roles, he felt it was just a matter of right timing.

A Wholesome Man

Considered to be one of TVB’s most eligible bachelors, no doubt there will be women who will throw themselves at Kenneth. Not only is he good looking, he is also smart and possesses all the qualities every girl can dream of – he is filial to his parents, he loves sports and has no vices such as gambling and drinking.

With only reports of one ex-girlfriend, Nancy Wu (胡定欣), and the rumored Margie Tsang (曾華倩) – Kenneth’s love life was relatively simple. Downplaying his good qualities, Kenneth shifted the focus to his colleagues such as Moses Chan (陳豪), Bosco Wong and Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) as better contenders for the Diamond Bachelor title. Kenneth said, “It’s the media who made me to be such a big deal! Actually a man must have a successful career which I don’t have yet.”

Now that Kenneth has risen through the ranks after his TVB My Favorite Male Character win, his love life will naturally be under closer scrutiny. When asked of his ideal partner, he said, “I am not a young boy anymore. I am not looking for someone who is pretty and sexy. In fact, TVB has plenty of girls who are pretty and sexy and I see them at work every day. What is most important is we must get along comfortably and she must have a good temperament which is hard to find nowadays.”
