Chilam Cheung Confesses to Being Scared of Anita Yuen

Celebrity couple Chilam Cheung (張智霖) and Anita Yuen (袁詠儀) often endear fans with stories of their marriage. Recently Chilam appeared on variety show Hello Saturday <你好星期六> and drew laughter from by declaring, “No one can beat me at being scared of their wife!”

When asked to explain how scared he was, Chilam responded without hesitations, “She only needs to count 1,2,3, and I’m usually opening the door by the time she gets to 1!” Chilam added that his wife’s has a “military-style” approach to managing their house.

Despite Chilam’s insistence that he is scared of Anita, the couple has an enviable relationship. Chilam once that his biggest worry was “Anita not having enough money to spend.”  Chilam knows that Anita loves to buy purses, but he would not stop Anita from doing what she loves. Even when Francis Ng (吳鎮宇) joked that Chilam “did the world a favor by marrying Anita”, Chilam simply laughed it off and chose to quietly protect Anita with his actions.

When disagreements arise, the couple would work them out together. Last year, the couple had differing opinions about their son’s internship. Anita wanted their son to concentrate on studies first, while Chilam supported their son to learn through work experience. Eventually, the couple respected their son’s decision while taking time to understand each other’s perspectives.

While the couple has been together since 1998, Chilam has never shied away from being publicly labeled as a “henpecked husband.” Instead, Chilam chose to embrace the label and explained, “When you care, you don’t argue about what is right or wrong.” Chilam’s sentiment may explain the key to the couple’s enduring marriage.
