Chow Yun Fat and Nicolas Tse to Film “God of Gamblers 4”?
With Wong Jing (王晶) as its producer, the fourth installment of film, God of Gamblers <賭神>, will allegedly start its production in November. Chow Yun Fat (周潤發), who bid farewell to Hong Kong films for 18 years, will reportedly return as the classic god of gamblers. Nicolas Tse (謝霆鋒) will be his partner in collaboration. The female lead of the film will be Kimmy Tong (童菲).
In order to enjoy his 60th birthday year, Eric Tsang (曾志偉) is refusing as many jobs as he can. He stated that after the completion of Aerobic Girls and Super Trio Maximus <超級無敵獎門人終極篇>, he would not be accepting other projects. Therefore, Wong Jing is now in charge of TVB’s anniversary films. Chow Yun Fat had been expanding his career in Hollywood since 1994. Allegedly, he and Wong Jing are very friends who have known each other for years, collaborated many times, and share the exact same birthday.
When Wong Jing was asked about the alleged cast, he replied, “We are still in discussion, but the chances of collaboration are very likely,” Will there really be a God of Gamblers 4 <賭神4>? “It’s not 100 percent confirmed yet!”
In the past, numerous TVB fadans and siu sangs were invited to take part in the anniversary film. This year, it seemed obvious that Kate Tsui (徐子珊) and Bosco Wong (黃宗澤) were heavily promoted in I Love Hong Kong <我愛HK>. However, Wong Jing ended up selecting Kimmy instead. He revealed, “There will be no fadans from TVB this time!”

I don’t know if Nic Tse would be a good cast for that. I just can’t see him fitting in. Surely there is someone that would work better?
Would love to see Andy back in it to explain more of his storyline though. – Or at least an extended cameo to wrap up his story if they can’t fit both megastars into one movie. – Maybe some sort of final showdown at the end between both of them.
yea, I agree with you…Andy Lau is like “disappear” from the God Of Gambler Story..well, dun think his solo movie counts as its not continuous from the trilogy…It would be nice to see the teacher & student together after all these years..
Hmmm….I don’t know…Wong Jing has definitely lost his touch in recent years with all those rubbish movies he’s been churning out….
Having Chow Yun Fat back is definitely a huge draw and I’m pretty sure most “God of Gamblers” fans (like me for instance) would watch just because of him (just like most of us supported GOG2, even though it was nowhere near as good as the original).
Oh and so far, I really don’t see the TVB connection — so does this mean 1) this film will be airing in the CNY timeslot? Hmmm….doesn’t really fit the CNY movie mold…plus I doubt audiences want to watch something so serious during CNY…that piece doesn’t make sense to me. 2) so this film will be co-produced by TVB like all of Eric’s CNY films have been? Hmmm…maybe this is TVB’s way of getting Chow Yun Fat to come back and ‘film’ for them?
True, I will watch it just because it’s part of the series. I just hope it doesnt fail TOO epically…
Wong Jing has lost his touch since the 90’s. Most of the movies he’s churned out post-2000 has been terrible. Has HK ran out of quality movie directors?
