Don’t Go Breaking My Heart 2 <單身男女2>, the sequel to the romantic comedy film Don’t Go Breaking My Heart <單身男女> from 2011, will bring back original cast members Gao Yuanyuan (高圓圓) and Louis Koo (古天樂), as well as feature a guest appearance from Daniel Wu (吳彥祖). The film will also star Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) and Vic Chou (周渝民) as new characters.
Like with the series’ first installment, Don’t Go Breaking My Heart 2 will be directed and produced by Johnnie To (杜琪峰), with the screenplay helmed by frequent collaborator Wai Ka Fai (韋家輝). The story is expected to pick up where the first film left off: wedding bells seem to be ringing for Cheng Zixin (Gao Yuanyuan) and Fang Qihong (Daniel Wu). However, they hit a patchy spot in their relationship, which is when Zhang Shenran (Louis Koo), who still has the hots for Zixin, decides to step in. Further complicating matters is the arrival of Miriam Yueng’s character, Zixin’s bridesmaid and close friend, who also happens to be interested in Shenran, despite already having a boyfriend and to-be-fiancé (Vic Chou).
Don’t Go Breaking My Heart 2, which recently began filming in Guangzhou, will be Miriam’s first time working with Johnnie, and Vic’s second time after Linger <蝴蝶飛>, his film debut in 2008. As with the first film, the ending has not yet been revealed to even the cast members, and Johnnie and Wai Ka Fai are still making edits to the screenplay as filming continues. Fans of the first movie and casual moviegoers will have to wait until the film hits theaters to find out how this love pentagon plays out.
