“Tiny Times 3.0” Opens July 17 in China

Guo Jingming (郭敬明) released the first trailer for his upcoming film Tiny Times 3.0 <小时代:刺金时代>, the third installment of his highly successful Tiny Times titles which star idol sensations Yang Mi (杨幂), Kai Ko (柯震東), Amber Kuo (郭采潔), Chen Xuedong (陈学冬), Bea Hayden (郭碧婷), and Hsieh Yi Lin (謝依霖).

The Tiny Times series is based on the novel trilogy of the same name, which were also written by Guo Jingming. The novels were best-sellers, and the first film adaptation of the franchise, 2013’s Tiny Times 1.0, was Guo’s directorial debut. Critics called Tiny Times 1.0 a mellow version of Sex and the City with the messy, melodramatic script of Gossip Girl. Though the film, and its subsequent sequel Tiny Times 2.0, did not fare well critically, the films broke box office records.

The trailer for Tiny Times 3.0, first revealed on May 7, opens with the monologue, “It’s the best of times, and also the worst of times. You’ll forget these times, but you’ll always remember us.” The film is described to be much darker and dramatic, in which the four main characters, who have been best friends since their high school years, find themselves slowly breaking apart from each other.

Tiny Times 3.0 also introduces Jen You Ming (任佑明), Lee Hyun Jae (李鉉在), Jiang Chao (姜潮), and rookie actor Vivian Dawson (錦榮), who is best known for being Jolin Tsai’s (蔡依林) boyfriend. Vivian stars as the young lifestyle magazine editor Gong Ming, a role previously portrayed by Rhydian Vaughan (鳳小岳).
