Upcoming iQiyi Dramas to Watch

(Above) Post-85 “flowers” Liu Shishi & Yang Mi helm the dazzle in upcoming costume dramas, while rising actresses like Shen Yue are creating a buzz of their own in “Fox Spirit Matchmaker“.

Video streaming platform iQiyi has announced its line-up of Chinese dramas for the second half of the year to 2024, exciting viewers with glimpses of post-85 flowers Yang Mi (楊冪), Cecilia Liu Shishi (劉詩詩) and Tiffany Tang Yan (唐嫣), who will each have a costume drama awaiting release.

In the just released teaser trailer, Yang Mi’s role as sharp-witted, cold-blooded and inquisitive secret service chief Guan Xue in Republican spy drama Harbin 1944 <哈爾濱一九四四> has raised hype from netizens, helped by the star’s revelation that she had a most thrilling time playing the role, and strong anticipation over her impending scenes opposite actor Qin Hao (秦昊)!

 

Xianxia costume drama Fox Spirit Matchmaker <狐妖小紅娘> has also dropped its complete cast lineup posters for the first time. Besides established actress Liu Shishi, a strong bevy of up-and-coming young actresses including Betty Wu Xuanyi (吳宣儀), Shen Yue (沈月), Zhang Ruonan (章若楠)、Meng Ziyi (孟子義) and Kyulkyung (周潔瓊) are also unveiled in distinct, gorgeous looks for their respective onscreen personas, exciting netizens who are calling the drama “a reunion of beauties”.

On the male actors’ front, “Xiang Liu” Tan Jianci (檀健次) will also be seen in not one but two new productions including Go East <四方館> and the sequel to 2022’s hit crime thriller Under the Skin <獵罪圖鑑>. Joseph Zeng (曾舜晞), who impressed with his role as detective Fang Duobing in Mysterious Lotus Casebook <蓮花樓>, looks to set off romantic sparks onscreen with actress Tian Xiwei (田曦薇) in new drama Romance on The Farm <田耕記>, and engage in a battle of wits and bravery with Zhang Songwen (張頌文) in upcoming A Lonely Hero’s Journey <孤舟>.

Winning over viewers in his handsome role as Duan Jiaxu in youth romance Hidden Love <偷偷藏不住>, Chen Zheyuan (陳哲遠) announced two new dramas of distinct genres, one being novel-to-drama adaptation White Olive Tree <白色橄欖樹> where his explosive engineer role character Li Zan reunites and develops a mutually therapeutic romance with actress Liang Jie (梁潔), and the second a Republican-era romance Dark Night & Dawn <暗夜與黎明> where he stars as a police officer alongside actor Nie Yuan (聶遠).
