Yang Mi Returns as Female Lead for “Tiny Times 3.0”

Amid speculation that she would be too busy with married life and other filming projects, mainland Chinese actress Yang Mi (楊冪) has confirmed that she will return as the female lead in Tiny Times 3.0 <小時代3>, the third movie adaptation in the Tiny Times series that aired this summer.

The question of whether or not the original cast would return for Tiny Times 3.0, which is currently filming in Shanghai, has been a subject of debate since the sequel was announced. On December 2, author/director Guo Jingming (郭敬明) began updating fans with casting news through his Sina Weibo account, but it was not until the evening of December 30 that he revealed the actress for Lin Xiao, the film’s female lead.

“My heart’s most suitable and unmatched for Lin Xiao forever, she has returned,” wrote Guo, supplementing his post with three stills of Yang Mi posing in a bathrobe.

In response, Yang Mi posted, “Tiny Times was with me during a time of breaking up and will be with me as I welcome the joy of becoming a bride.” She also shared that there were some challenges in returning to the cast, but that in the end, she and Guo “chose to fight side by side.”

The majority of the original cast will return, including Taiwanese actresses Amber Kuo (郭采潔) and Evonne Hsieh (謝依霖), Taiwanese actor Kai Ko (柯震東), mainland Chinese actress Bea Hayden (郭碧婷). However, Taiwanese-Welsh actor Rhydian Vaughan (鳳小岳), who portrayed Lin Xiao’s austere and demanding boss, will be replaced by Australian model Vivian Dawson (錦榮).

Tiny Times 3.0 is slated for a summer 2014 release, which will make it Yang Mi’s first project after her and Hawick Lau’s (劉愷威) wedding ceremony in January of next year.

  1. the casts are all handsome and pretty faces..no wonder can attracts

  2. Wasn’t Tiny Times a flop last time? Its cast helped the movie to get audiences, but its reviews were terrible. Tiny Times 2 is even worse. How Tiny Times 3 will be, I wonder.

But if Yang Mi is really peggy, maybe the project will be postponed/cancelled.

    1. The two Tiny Times movies grossed a total of about US$180 million; so what you had categorized as flops certainly was not based on box office results.

  3. Bad decision, Rhydian Vaughan is waaaaay better looking than Vivian Dawson.

  4. lol i watched both of them…and they were so vapid – the movies and dialogue – bea hayden was stiff and the character was annoying…yet oddly realistic. however, yang mi did decently in her limited role and amber kuo was awesome. the “ugly” friend was a bit of a pain to watch.

  5. Actually, i watch it only because of Kai Ko, i find this film so crappy except Kai KO

  6. I watched the first one and I was extremely disappointed. It was definitely over-hyped. The story line was extremely predictable and nothing original. Only good thing about the movie was the attractive cast and settings but one can only sit through so much before falling asleep.

  7. damm i just got 1st tiny times , hope is not as bad as what people are saying lol dont want to waste my time
