Aska Yang Releases Third Music Album “First Love”

Ever since his appearance on the singing competition One Million Star <超級星光大道> in 2007, Taiwanese singer Aska Yang (楊宗緯) has touched the hearts of listeners with his pure and penetrating voice. On March 29, he released his third studio album, First Love <初。愛>, a collection of songs detailing Aska’s experiences in different cities throughout his musical career.

In the past few years, Aska has migrated through various cities due to performances and other activities, and the resulting thoughts and experiences have left an indelible mark on his music. Despite the struggles and criticisms he faced in the past, Aska has always chosen to mull over his experiences, turn them into a source of warmth in his singing, and express his thoughts to listeners’ hearts. In First Love, he urges listeners to rediscover their initial passion in music and in life.

The album’s first single, “Actually Nothing At All” <其實都沒有>, and the accompanying music video were released earlier this month. Other notable songs include “Forget That I” <忘了我>, which was composed by Taiwanese singer-songwriter William Wei (韋禮安), “Want to Tell You” <想對你說>, written by Sodagreen (蘇打綠)’s lead vocalist and noted songwriter Wu Tsing Fong (吳青峯), and the title track “First Love” <初愛>.

Taiwanese producer, singer, and songwriter Jonathan Lee (李宗盛), who is known as one of the godfathers of Taiwanese Mandopop, also contributed to three songs in First Love. His composition for “Without Guilt” <無邪> showcases his unique style, which can be mastered only by Aska’s vocal abilities. The lyrics for the song were written by Yen-j (嚴爵), another popular Taiwanese singer-songwriter.

Despite the contributions of many outstanding musical talents, First Love maintains a simple and honest aura, similar to the pure and unaffected quality of Aska’s voice. After an almost two-year gap since his second album, Aska’s third studio release is sure to be well worth the wait.
