Chilam Cheung Releases Cover of “Triumph in the Skies” Theme Song

Chilam Cheung (張智霖) is back at work after announcing his new management company and renewing his music contract at yesterday’s high-profile press event. Taking advantage of the success of Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II>, Chilam’s record label has purchased the rights to produce a cover version of Eason Chan’s (陳奕迅) popular opening theme, “Years Like a Song” <歲月如歌>. A gentler interpretation that showcases Chilam’s smooth vocals, the cover song received positive reviews and became a hit online. To satisfy fans’ demands, Chilam is on-set this week to shoot the song’s official music video.

Chilam invited China 3D Digital Entertainment’s new artist Jessy Li (李梓言) to play the video’s female lead. The two shared several pure but intimate moments. Staying true to Captain Cool’s womanizing ways, Chilam sat on the bed deep in thought as Jessy reached out from behind to button up the collar of his shirt. Chilam also treated female fans to a scene in the showers. Although solemn and fully clothed, Chilam easily exudes his brand of calm sexiness while drenched in water.

Besides the music video, Chilam’s record label will also release a photo book, titled Captain Cool’s Diary <Cool魔日記>. Chilam is personally involved in every aspect of production, brainstorming the music video’s concept, plot, settings, and even helped select his outfits. Regarding his efforts, Chilam said, “Nobody knows Captain Cool better than I do. I must of course participate in the creation of my own diary.”

Captain Cool’s magnetic appeal continues to captivate female fans even after the series has ended. While shooting a scene in Central, several passersby gathered around the set to watch Chilam in action, including a young couple. A woman appeared to be a big fan of Chilam and insisted on staying to watch, angering her boyfriend. The two then began arguing over this matter, their loud voices even disrupted filming at one point.

  1. chilam is getting more recognition and breakhrough as captain cool than the main lead francis sam gor

      1. let’s wait for the captain cool photobook! i’m sure lots of women will drool and anita will be jealous!

      2. sounds amazing that chilam finally reached the bigggest breakthrough in his career at age 40 something and through a tvb series! who would’ve thought

      3. @sel_fi_wu Why would Anita be jealous when she’s MARRIED to Chilam…..?

      4. any normal housewife would be jealous when their husband’s photobook is being drooled by millions of women. i expect shots of captain cool in uniforms in the ‘captain cool diary’!

      5. @sel_fi_wu Right…. because looking at a photobook is better than looking at the real person?

      6. sef fi wu, surely you exaggerate! Just becos you drool over him doesnt mean other women find him attractive, definitely not in the millions.

      7. @pssst
I know, right… I for one thinks CLC is just alright, NOWHERE near drooling status????? please….hahha

    1. why out of all people chilam invite an unknown actress to be his mv lead!

      1. So the focus was on Chilam. If the girl was well known, the spotlight would be shared.

  2. I love Chilam’s cover of the song, maybe even more than the original itself. I also thought that the song fitted his character perfectly since he was the one who ended up all alone at the end of the drama.

    1. agree that chilam sings the song much better than the arrogant eason

      1. Chilam has a much softer tone to it, and sounds more soothing. Eason’s seemed more powerful and was fitting for the first show.

      2. Agree with you Cherry. I love both version but find Chilam’s version more soothing.

  3. you mean this is the song in TITS1 that fans are raving about? Nothing nice at all.

  4. I was more attracted to chilam and francis than to the other younger male actors… This is probably why

    1. that’s not it. it’s just that ron is managed by tvb who unlike chilam’s great management didn’t know how to push ron while triumph2 still hot item by releasing issac photobooks. tvb always slow! they only care when it’s certain privileged people such as laughing gor or raymond’s

      1. It’s not that Ron’s management didn’t push him, it’s that he can’t act and has no charisma on screen.

      2. sel_fi_wu,
Although Ron was likeable as Issac, Chilam and Fala’s exposure soared the most after “Triumph in the Skies 2” aired. Chilam’s “Captain Cool” is the most popular male character in the show, while Fala’s commercial worth apparently increased dramatically since the airing of the show.

Ron made a good comeback with “Triumph in the Skies 2”, along with much good press about his maturity over the last 10 years, but he is still outshined by others.

      3. I would not say that Ron can’t act. He can but he is still a bit stiff. BUt you have to admit that he has improved and I agree with Jayne that Ron is outshined by Francis, Fala and Chilam. Maybe Ron will get more breakthrough roles in CHina productions??

      4. I think ron did a good job portraying Isaac this round but still, chilam and francis all the way for me 🙂

  5. i hope all this hype over TITS2 and Captain Cool dies down soon, it’s getting reallllllly boring.

    1. Me too!!!!!!! Omg I just cant get enough of him….he is just SO beautiful.

    2. I am not crazy about Chilam, but I love Captain Cool …………….. so handsome, playful and flirtatious. Chilam really acted very well for Captain Cool.

  6. I like Eason’s version more.. it sounded more carefree…. This is a bit too… conservative?

He should be doing a cover for the latest series instead!!!!!!

  7. Eason’s version felt more smooth and laid back. His version was less of that ):

    1. Yeah, Chilam’s version is soothing but lacks a certain oomph… Eason have stronger vocals (he can sure shout without getting out of tune).

      1. Yea his version is a bit dry and his voice sounds like chipmunks to me lol but i like the mv though (x

  8. he is the perfect male specimen… can drool over him..his version of the song is very sad….

  9. Chi lam deserves all this its just some jealous haters that think otherwise chi lam is awesome

    1. just because other people got different opinions, it doesn’t mean they are jealous… pls be mature when trying to comment.

      1. I don’t think so. They don’t like a certain thing or a certain person does NOT necessarily mean they are jealous NOT at all… It’s just a matter of opinion.
Just b/c you like a certain artist does NOT mean everyone will like them, everyone has different preferences and it has nothing to do w/JEALOUSY.

    2. i’m not jealous of him, i just can’t stand him. Ok’ so i was neutral to him till i watched Rippling Blossom (is that the name of that series with myolie abt some sushi chef?) and he was a 40 year old man acting like a teenager, that really put me off him for good. Same for Damien Lau in that show and to think i used to like him, sheesh!

      1. I think that was a bad series period, no matter who plays it it’s a boring boring boring series thru n thru. But then again, it’s not like TVB has produced any great shows lately?

    3. Everyone entitled to their own opinion hope I didn’t upset u guys but its true they’re jealous haters towards certain artists I didn’t mean to offend anyone cheers

  10. I think Eason sang this song better than Chilam. Chilam’s management company sure knows how to make money from the audiences.

  11. chilam’s version is completely different than eason’s. chilam tried to portray it differently. but still, his song lacked direction and it got boring after the first verse. Being laid back and sad doesn’t necessary have to be boring. Well Eason’s original song does beat this one, but chilam is gonna get a lot of good feedback from this which is perfectly fine since we are still hung up on TITS2

  12. Such a soothing voice. He gets all the LOVE from me! Anyway, I love both his and Eason’s version, which are different in their own way.

    1. Singing voice wise, they are both just OK, nowhere near having a great voice, LUCK is def on their side thou.

  13. Hmmm, i’m not feeling any “hotness” from him, neither is the song great. He looks his age in this MV and there are tons of other guys who look better than him. As for the singing, i can literally hear him gasping for breath.

    1. Yeah. “gasping for breath” is his flaw in singing that song!

  14. I hope they add in behind the scenes pictures of Triumph 2 for Captain Cool’s Diary, instead of all brand new pictures. Otherwise, what’s the point of calling it that.

    1. Script wise, yes, TITS was better. However, in terms of impressive characters, Captain Cool was definitely more appealing.

  15. Sounds exactly like Eason. Nothing special about it. Disappointing.
