Charlene Choi, Kenny Kwan Remain in Malaysia Despite Lockdown

Malaysia announced it will close borders until March 31, and the government ordered schools, places of worship, and businesses to close except for essential services. Due to filming commitments for web drama, Female Forensic Scientist JD <女法醫JD>, Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍), Kenny Kwan (關智斌), and Carlos Chan (陳家樂) will stay in Malaysia despite the country’s lockdown due to COVID-19.

The production crew already tried moving up the filming schedule, but they didn’t expect the border closure announcement to be made so soon. Now with the government’s ban on large gatherings, filming will need to come to a halt.

EEG talent manager Mani Fok (霍汶希) confirmed that the artistes are safe despite the lockdown. “If they leave Malaysia and come back [to Hong Kong], they will need to be quarantined for 14 days. If they resume work in April, we’ll need to quarantine again for 14 days. Our artistes’ schedules wouldn’t work then. For now, the majority of our artistes don’t have a problem and will follow the crew. They’re resting at a local hotel and will not go anywhere until work resumes in early April.”

Other Hong Kong Artistes Impacted by Border Closures

Chinese-Malaysian hip hop artiste, Namewee (黃明志) is currently stuck in Taiwan for work. Understanding that the border closure is a good preventive measure to help contain the virus, Namewee said he is busy preparing for his new movie, and is worried about not being able to return to Malaysia. With family members in Malaysia, the singer already reminded them to minimize going out. On the topic of buying the necessities and stocking up for the virus, he expressed, “There’s no need to start panic buying – grocery stores won’t stop operating just because the country is under lockdown.”

Hong Kong actress Selena Lee (李施嬅) is also currently stuck in Canada after the country announced border closures. Having to stop filming early, Selena is currently unable to get plane tickets to leave and she won’t be able to fly back to Hong Kong until at least March 29. The actress remained calm and said that the worst thing to do during COVID-19 is to panic.
