Charles Szeto’s Intimate Kissing Photo Sparks Gay Rumors

Earlier, photos of Charles Szeto Shu Qi intimately embracing another man circulated in Hong Kong forums. Charles noted that he did not know the man in the photo, Jimmy, that well. Yet, why would a pair of [straight] men agree to pose in such a way, with Jimmy standing close behind and hugging Charles’ shoulders?

Thirty-one year-old Charles Szeto, a former representative of the Hong Kong swimming team, was once accused of possessing a gambling habit. The photos of Charles and Jimmy were taken in 2009. Since the photos were taken while the pair were in bed together, netizens speculated that the men may be gay friends.  In one photo, Jimmy kissed Charles on the cheek. Charles was still sleepy in bed, but he smiled dreamily.

When the paparazzi confronted Charles about the photos, he said calmly, “I do not know the person in the photo that well. I don’t remember where the photo was taken!” (But he kissed you on the face, how can you say you don’t know him well?) “I think I was still asleep at the time. It’s okay for guys to play a little intimately!”

Since entering the entertainment industry for six years, Charles Szeto had zero rumors with female costars. He was often photographed going out with male friends instead. Charles said honestly, “There have been several gay friends who pursued me, but I was not interested! I only like women!”

Jayne: It’s obvious Charles’ photos were taken in bed. The photo of the guy kissing his face is pretty intimate. Why would straight men take this kind of photo, for memories of their friendship?!

  1. It’s 2010 so what’s the big deal if he’s gay? We have more important things to worry about than an athlete or a celebrity’s sexual preference/orientation/etc.

  2. Probably posted in Facebook or Twitter. Yes people are THAT stupid. But the thing is a lot of people posts such photos as a joke. It looks intimate but it could be just a joke photos; like 2 insane college boys pretending to have sex fully clothed. Again yes people are THAT stupid.

And to be it is still a big deal being gay or an athlete’s sexual preference because shoot me if you want, Asia is more conservative. But thanks to stupid people and stupid youngsters following stupid people we see more of ordinary nobodies taking naked photos and posting them online, including gay couples. Frankly I don’t care if you’re gay, straight, bi or alien out of this world whatever, I do not want to see you in bed with anyone unless you’re famous. People got it backwards thesedays; Nudity – Fame instead of Fame-nudity. What is offensive is not the sexual preference but that you’re flaunting it online with pictures what nots, and that to me is a worrying trend. Yes they may not intend it but stupid people should know there are other stupid people who will posts such photos elsewhere

Anyway I do think the photos look like 2 guys having fun not in a sexual way.

  3. Kidd, I think the posts circulated on some HK forums.

Funn, I understand college age guys taking these sort of photos as pranks, but Charles was 30 at the time of the photos. It’s a pretty immature thing to do at 30. Plus if it’s just a prank photo, why did he have to say he didn’t know the man in the photo that well?

  4. at least he’s getting some publicity and public attention for a short period of time, not sure if it’s a good thing for him or not. I’ve completely forgotten about this guy until today.

  5. ^ You’re right I forgot about him too! Now I remember that he’s a bad actor in his series. At least this can be a free publicity for him

  6. It really doesn’t matter what people’s sexual preference is as I know of some gay friends and clients too. I have nothing against them. But, I do agree with Funn and Jayne that posting these pics online is a stupid thing to. With the internet and technology now, there is no such thing as privacy anymore. If you take these kinds of pics, be prepared for it to be circulated whether it is at your own will or not. Unfortunately, the forums, you tube websites, etc. are becoming more like a weapon nowadays. They have become a way to harrass people and invade people’s privacy rather than friendly social networking and communication. One of my friends posted an article on facebook yesterday that reported an 18 year old college boy jumping to his death after videos of him making out with another male were posted up by his classmates. The classmates have been charged, but look at what a so-called prank does to young man who had a bright future ahead of him as a talented musician. I don’t think people think about the consuquences of what will happen when they post pics or videos of these types of acts. It really hurts other people, and most importantly, can affect somoeone’s life.

  7. Aly, that is horrible. I totally agree with what you say that is why I don’t participate in Facebook, twitter etc… I still believe in the old-fashion way to keep things about my life private and only close one knows about my whereabout.

In regards the photo above, it’s definitely very stupid. what kind of manly pose is that and who cares if you are gay, be proud!

  8. it wasn’t very smart of him to say he didn’t know the man in the photo when it’s obvious they know each other. He should have just said that it was a joke photo and he was just playing around.

Regardless, it shouldn’t matter if he is gay!

  9. I wonder if people have learned from the Edison Chen incident yet?? While it is true that technology has helped made our lives better but it has also caused more problems for us as well. Being on the net can be fun and yields many benefits, however, it can also at the same time give us a lot of headaches as well. I have stopped using Facebook since I rarely touched it anyways. I also saw that it seemed to be more negative than positive if you are not careful. I think if you don’t need that if you want to keep in touch with your family and friends. In fact, most of my close friends aren’t even on facebook. I just wish that people, especially public figures can be more careful about what they post on facebook, twitter or anywhere on the net.

  10. I suppose we have that “It will never happen to me” mentality. Whatever the advances, there are always those who takes advantage of it for bad purposes. I suppose whatever that doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. I read about the gay college guy and what a betrayal, by his 2 school friends no less, one of whom is a female Asian. Rather ashamed of her! But to die for that… maybe his parents didn’t know and he didn’t know how to tell his parents or maybe it is the idea of shame. More sensitive people will choose this route, which is a pity. He should have punched his 2 “friends” and to do so he must feel less shame and more anger. Sometimes being angry does save lives.
