Fala Chen and Ronald Cheng Deny Spending Night in Hotel Room

Fala Chen (陳法拉) and Ronald Cheng (鄭中基) got friendly on the set of Mysterious Treasure<神秘寶藏> while shooting in Cheung Chau last week. The cast and crew of the $80 million HKD film, which also stars Dayo Wong (黃子華) and Wylie Chiu (趙碩之), spent four long days shooting on the small Hong Kong island.

As it was Fala’s first time staying at the island, it was reported that Ronald was being overly attentive to Fala throughout filming, and even spent the night in her hotel room. The magazine claimed that Ronald, who is married to Sammie Yu (余思敏) and has a two-year-old daughter Emma, was cheating on his wife with Fala. A source claimed that Ronald missed having a thrilling dating life and is growing tired of his unexciting marriage. The source said Ronald described his current marriage to be “like a prison”.

The film is directed by Gordon Chan (陳嘉上) and Ronald Cheng. Louis Koo (古天樂) and Shu Qi (舒淇) initially agreed to star in Mysterious Treasure, but both stars dropped out due to schedule conflicts. Dayo Wong and Fala Chen stepped in to replace Louis and Shu Qi’s roles. Fala, a former TVB actress, intended to break into the Hong Kong film market ever since signing a film contract with Gordon Chan last year. Both Dayo and Fala are not box office guarantees, but a source said Ronald is “confident” in the script of Mysterious Treasure.

When Fala replaced Shu Qi, Ronald slightly altered the role to accommodate Fala’s image. Reportedly, Ronald plans to promote her as the film industry’s new rising leading star. Throughout the four-day shoot in Cheung Chau, Ronald was very patient with Fala. He personally went over the script with her several times and was her action choreographer. During breaks, Ronald and Fala ate meals together.

The source said, “Ronald is very careful when it comes to Fala’s parts during filming. He is very patient with her and doesn’t get angry with her when she had numerous outtakes. He is always praising Fala, saying that she is an idealist and has a heart. Unlike what others say, Fala is not difficult to get along with – she’s very close with the director.”

Ronald and Fala Respond to Slanderous Rumors

After the magazine published the report, Gordon Chan, Ronald Cheng, and Fala Chen immediately took to their Weibo blogs to clarifying the magazine’s slanderous report.

Ronald Cheng said, “I don’t care if it’s about me. I’m already used to your agency making untrue reports about me. However, does it really entertain anyone if you use my wife and daughter to make news? Does it really increase sales? There is a limit to my toleration. I will not give in to this!” He then cursed the tabloid publication.

Gordon Chan wrote, “I came across a Hong Kong gossip magazine reporting about me and Ronald Cheng’s filming in Cheung Chau. I’ve once again witnessed the story-writing talent of these gossip editorials.”

Fala Chen said, “It’s always a new low for you guys, with your respect for the truth and how you challenge your readers’ intelligence. [I’ve been] working with your fashion magazine MORE for many years. Artistes don’t want to make conflict with the media, but you refuse to let us walk. You speak lies with opened eyes. It’s all about money to you! Entertainment [industry] doesn’t need to be that low. Seriously.”
