Fala Chen Directs Short Film for the First Time

Taking summer break from her masters’ program at the Julliard School, Fala Chen (陳法拉) returned to Hong Kong to fulfill some work obligations. She will also be directing her first short film.

Fala appeared at a promotional event with Olympic swimming athlete, Stephanie Au (歐鎧淳). The company released two new thermos flask designs and will be donating all proceeds to a charity aimed at helping animals. Fala and Stephanie are both cat lovers and were supportive of the promotional and charity event.

Although Fala traveled overseas to study in New York, she especially arranged for her beloved cat, affectionately named Meowmie, to fly there with her. “Earlier, I had to help my cat prepare medical documents, pet flight tickets, and a cat cage. The procedure was relatively simple. My cat has been keeping me company for the past three years that I have been studying in the United States.”

Fala will be staying in Hong Kong for the summer and will be directing a short film that she wrote.“Originally, outdoor filming was supposed to begin a few days ago, but we had to cancel because of the rain. Getting things started is always hard. Yesterday, we filmed indoors, and it went relatively smooth. As a first-time director, there are a lot of things to take care of. Filming will occur in both Hong Kong and New York. I pulled a lot of favors in order to invite and hire my film crew and actors to help out. Everyone is participating as volunteers. It is very heartwarming. Right now, I can’t reveal the plot or the actors yet. I hope to finish all the background work soon, and then premiere it publicly.”

The 25-year-old three-time Olympian, Stephanie, also shared that she will be publishing an autobiography about her life as an athlete. When asked whether it will be a photo biography, she said, “Probably not. There aren’t a lot of photos. Majority of the book is words. I spent half a year to write 50,000 words. Of course, I will also talk a little bit about my personal love life, because I value the relationship between people. Only those who really want to get to know me should buy the book. I’m afraid people have their hopes up too high. As long as the first publications sell, then I will already be satisfied.”

  1. Shesh, what walks of life have a 25 years old experienced? Even as an athlete… Well then again, 50k isn’t much.

Some indi-films are good. Most are whacked. I hope hers is the former. She hasn’t been in the entertainment for that long to able to use the friend-card so I’m surprised she can pull this off on just volunteers. Good on her.
