Fala is real pretty and classy looking but I always find that she doesn’t emote well/have chemistry with her co-stars…
I tend to agree even though I prefer her over Kate. Fala does seem shut off emotionally in romantic scenes. Example: her first kiss with Michael in LOO. They were kissing, but there bodies had like a meter between them.
Kate OTOH, did quite well with Bosco in her romantic scenes. But her character/acting otherwise was horrendous. So was Fala’s btw.
While either of them becoming 1st immediately after Charmaine is ridiculous, I do think that they are in the top/next in line together with a couple others.
Generally speaking, I far more prefer Fala’s acting than Kate. But I’m not sure Fala is a good lead. She seems less charismatic and too subdued. Kate however, did really well in WAW – but she did have Roger Kwok for support so it’s not quite a fair comparison.

I will pick neither. Tavia is a better choice compare to both of them. Myolie is good too. This article is dramatic; I thought they have been saying either Myolie or Fala is likely to win TV queen. I agreed that Fala’s Cantonese is not there yet. The first few episodes of “Lives”, her Cantonese was horrible, at that times, I felt like she went back to square one. Then later the episodes, her Cantonese are little bit better but she does have an accent. Kate was good in “A Great Way to Care”. I like her as a cop and I even thought her acting has improved so much. But then she starts to act seductive with her eyes and pouting lips in all her characters. When she is not speaking her dialogue, she is either acting all “chok” or no emotional. I was disappointed and I would have like her character in FH3 more if she is not too focus on her look. Linda improved her acting and has breakthrough roles but not there yet. I think she has potential.

Yea, the news is all over Weibo. The reason they gave was that because there were two Empress Lu series planned, and that only one will be picked at the end of the day, so to maintain harmony, they have decided to not show any of the promotional clips for those two series (for those who don’t read Mandarin). Secretly, I am glad. If push comes to shove, I would prefer that Maggie’s one gets picked. Somehow I don’t see Tavia in the role of Empress Lu, granted she is a pretty good actress in general. I have a feeling Tavia will just focus on being evil and go OTT again like last time.

Kate and Fala are both still weak actresses. Both are weak to lead as high ranking police officers too. I was warming up to Kate’s emotional scenes in LOO but getting her as a team leader in FH3 looks like a joke. Kate can’t handle her lawyer part and not her senior cop part too. That goes the same for Fala. Fala and Kate looks like a little kid and a wannabe fashionista trying to lead a team of cops as senior officers.
Kate and Fala are useless to act as antagonist if they can not act as mean SOB madam part of the time.

Yes, Kate was HORRIBLE as a lawyer. And Fala was HORRIBLE as a senior police. TVB should stop casting them in roles that prop them, and just give them age-appropriate roles.
Kate has acted a police officer in many series in her career, yet she still sucks. TVB producers really need to stop casting Kate into cop roles that she is not suitable to play at all!

Well, i think it would be really unfair if kate and fala take over charmaine’s postion. Their acting have indeed improved but it still needs improvement. I’m rooting for for Tavia and Myolie cos they have been acting for ages and they totally deserve the number 1 spot. As for linda, i love her, her crying scenes are pretty good but i think Tavia and Myolie are better than her.

I agree with you, either Tavia or Myolie (preferably Tavia). Linda is still a baby to me, she still has time to improve.
I don’t think either Kate or Fala would make top fadan, not yet. I know Kate is 30+ but in terms of acting, she’s still quite new, on par with Fala. I would think Myolie, Tavia or even Nancy (sadly she is not well promoted) would be a better choice for top sister. They have good acting chops, most of the time and they’ve been around the industry long enough that people will accept if they are made top sister. Kate, Fala and even Linda haven’t been around long enough, they are still too new to be the top fadan.
I think it’s about time for Tavia to be #1 I never liked her , but her acting is way better than Kate and Fala. I like Fala, but Fala is just pretty, she still needs to work on her acting. Never liked Kate, and I’m pretty sure people would rage if Kate was #1. I guess Myolie is okay, but its about time Tavia got recognized she isn’t getting any younger.

Everyone actor or actress who enters the TV/TVB industry are all so good. I dislike how some of us judge others on their looks etc… Does it care in my opinion? I don’t think so but I guess you would like to see your idol on TV who is experienced etc… I really do adore both Kate and Fala but if I had to choose I’d go with Kate. Why? It’s because that Kate has this friendly vibe when you approach her. I’ve met Kate not too long ago. She may look she’s done plastic surgery but she hasn’t. Ever heard of as you get older you will become prettier? I think this is very true. I haven’t met Fala yet but she seems like a enjoyable young women to be around with! well said Mika. imo i think its not an easy job to work as a tvb actress.. people are just doing their best so its not necessary to compare one another. in FH3 i think Kate is adorable, the gag is quite funny and im looking forward to its Episode 15! i wont care about how she acts in other series, she has got a role that she can handled well in FH3. i guess actors will improve through time, its glad to see some cool acting like Nancy vs pro sir at the court scene!
Thank you Norika. Just my opinion. I enjoy watching all TVB actors and actresses so i don’t like judging… Yes i do like Kate in FH3 and i can’t wait to see how she and Ron’s relationship will work out. Also Nancy was amazing at the court scene with Pro Sir~!

Agree. Nancy is wonderful and terribly underrated. She’s stunning and very versatile. Same can be said for Selena. Don’t know how they would fare as leading actresses, though Nancy did really well in GMG even if she wasn’t technically the lead.
Big sister is a bunch of hype that these shallow actresses would stoop to in order to get promoted to that pinnacle of notoriety. If their acting is any good, their talent should get the fame and recognition and be proclaimed #1 by the viewers not the TVB or any other company. The viewers are the ones who spend time to watch and critique these shows, view and possibly purchase the different items advertised on the different series thus generating revenues for TVB and the likes. Whether Fala, Tavia or Kate, they are just prima-donnas or high maintenance divas striving or hungering for attention to cover their second rate acting. Enough pontification from me…

Kate
Con: Look like a lady boy in a bad way. Current hairstyle and image is loud, brash and nothing.
Seductive glances and pouty lips have been overdone to death.
Fala
Con: Name sounds like a monk who has attained enlightenment.
No image. And THAT in entertainment field equates suicide, darling.
Linda
Con: B-o-r-i-n-g. In one word. Enough said.

I find her charismatic on screen which is actually the most important factor. No point in being most charismatic interesting off screen when on screen you are boring. Linda is actually a better actor than many give her credit. I find her convincing in most roles she has done and that I have seen, even those against type. Fala is pretty, cute and charismatic as well. Acting wise she has improved, I like watching her but not enough to switch the TV just for her. For me the boring one is Tavia. As for Kate, never see her in the equation at all. Never thought she was good enough.

Fala is the only one I particular care for out of the bunch, but she’s not trying hard enough. Feel like her change in image has been both a blessing AND curse. If she was as pushy as she was rumoured to be in the past, that would at least have been something. Now she’s so bland.

I don’t get why they NEED a “big sister”. All the actresses that have been named have quite a lot of room for improvement honestly. Second they don’t need a number 1 sister. They all need practice. Everyone should be given a chance if they do the status thing then the people who don’t have a chance now will never get a chance because all the focus would be on specific people already. Personally I’ve watched Tavia as a kid and I think she’s a good actress. I’ve also watched a lot of people who can act who were never really given a chance I think either they need to make a sunday show where these people who have never been promoted can be showcased. Or promote those people. There are a large amount of people who can act who have been acting for so long that have never been given a chance. A lot of them could act but since they were never given any chances they had to leave or continue to work as a minor role. I personally feel everyone should get a chance and even if the role does not immediately look suitable like Angela Tong’s role in life made simple you have to give them a chance or really make them take on the character. I just see every year talent get wasted.
That being said I do think Fala and Kate are fine but making them number 1 would just mean less opportunities for everyone else. I’m no professional but I’m sure even they need some more practice.
I doubt that any of them (TY, Kate, Linda, Fala, Myolie) will leave TVB in the next, uhm, at least 5 years.
Some can shine, some can’t. The ones who can shine will be centralized and the ones who can’t, will stay in the background. It isn’t the talents and the experiences only, it also includes charisma, luck and intelligence. Yes, intelligence is a factor for them to climb high.
Agree with everyone that TVB don’t need a 1st sister. Just cast the role for the suitable actress. In the past, all the 1st sisters and brothers became 1st naturally when they got popular and their series well received. They were not purposely made.
I believe 1st sister means someone who can headline a series and famous enough to attract viewers. Not many viewers will watch a series with an unknown or someone not popular enough, unfortunately hence the need of such 1st sister. I feel TVB should just have open audition instead of Miss Hk which I have been saying for years.

Linda has been in the industry longer than Kate and Fala. She has had the most lead roles. She has shown that she is the most improved and out of those three Linda is better,but not #1 sister material. Just she is better than Fala and Kate. Linda was actually convincing as a cop… example forensic heroes. Fala was not convincing. Kate is okay. As you can tell they are leaving Linda out, though clearly she is the most experienced out of the three.
I still feel that LInda carry this sweet looking girl next door feels in her. Kate can carry villain & cop roles better than Linda imo. As for Fala, maybe office girls or reporter role..suits her imo. Fala definitely can’t carry any madam, lawyer etc role due to her lack of cantonese speaking ability. So overall, I think Kate has upperhand if compare to Fala and Linda.
Linda has improved a lot on her acting. She’s quite natural in her acting now. I didn’t watch YSSS, but, she acted well in Super Snoops. Her emotional scenes are done well.
Neither does Linda and Fala in a cop or villain roles.
Would like to add that my statement above doesn’t indicate that Linda can’t carry the 1st lead role in the series, she was praised for her acting ability in her recent series of ROW & her role as “miss koo”. My point is it’s hard to imagine Linda in evil role since she has been in goody roles almost every series.

Falan is sweet & hardworking but after her latest role as ‘madam’ which is her worse role so far, I feel she still needs more experience. She does have the potential.

People keep saying Linda has improved… well, shouldn’t she improve?? Which new actor/actress hasn’t improved especially if being promoted so heavily and given so many opportunities to do so?? Linda’s roles seem all the same so it’s not surprising (or rather, it should be expected) that she is better now. But for roles like in Gem of Life, she was awful. (even that different hairstyle was awful on her). She is limited at what she can do well – because of her ‘goody’ looks and voice. Frankly, the roles she typically plays seem far from difficult and could easily be replaced by any other actress if they were promoted just the same. I haven’t watched that ‘miss Koo’ drama yet – is she supposed to be extraordinary in that one?
The thing is, Linda Chung has such a goody face and image that it’s hard to hate and people seem more lenient on her- unlike Kate and Fala who are easier targets for criticisms.
Personally, I think Linda is ok, just like I think Kate/Fala/Myolie/Tavia are all ok. I am not a fan of any of them; I just judge the drama and characters in it. But none of them are deserving of this “No 1 Sister” title.
