Joey Meng Postpones Baby Plans to Film 50 Episodes for TVB

Currently filming for TVB’s comedy Cousin, You are Good <老表,你好嘢> with Roger Kwok (郭晉安) and Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍), former ATV actress Joey Meng (萬綺雯) plans to film 50 episodes with TVB this year. There are also plans for Joey to star with Michael Miu (苗僑偉) and Bosco Wong (黃宗澤) in an upcoming 30-episode grand production!

Facing a talent drain due to increasing local competition, TVB has recently recruited many experienced former ATV actors to headline their own dramas, attempting to keep their dramas fresh and competent in the market. Among the former ATV actors that joined TVB recently, Joey Meng is the most sought after by TVB producers. Currently filming for the 20-episode comedy Cousin, You Are Good, Joey is looking forward to film a 30-episode drama with TVB soon after completing Cousin, You Are Good.

Joey confirmed, “Yes, another producer did approach me about filming an upcoming production. I’m really attracted to the story and my character is something I’ve never tried before. If our schedules work out, I really want to film it!”

It is rare for Joey to pick up a new drama after just completing one, even during her days with ATV. She said, “Good characters are hard to come by. I’m willing to try everything, and I get excited when I come upon good characters. Since Cousin, You Are Good is a comedy, it’s not as stressful to film. Before filming began I already received the scripts of the first eight episodes, so I have time to prepare. I’m well-rested, so I’m ready for more!”

When asked about her competition with Alice Chan (陳煒), another former ATV star who also joined TVB in 2012, Joey said, “I never like to compare myself with others. Alice and I collaborated many times before, so if we were to be compared, it should have been years ago. We’re all in a new environment now; the most important thing is that we’re enjoying our work and having a great time.”

Would Joey only choose the scripts in which she plays the lead character? She clarified, “I never asked about things like that! To me, I can do anything as long as the character is interesting and I’m with the right costar.”

Postpones Baby Plans for TVB

Joey, who plans to film 50 episodes with TVB this year, has no choice but to postpone her baby plans with husband Chan Sap Sam (陳十三). Joey laughed, “When TVB approached me, we were indeed thinking about having a baby. I’m concentrated on my work now, so I’ll leave it to fate.”

Asked whether she and her husband had reached a consensus, Joey said, “Yes. We talk about everything with each other. We share the same values, and my family is very supportive and encourages me to do what I want to do.”

Although Joey becomes excited with new challenges, there is still one thing she’s not quite ready for yet. “I’ve never filmed bed scenes, nor do I want to. Besides, I’m married and extremely bony. Let’s not do so!”

  1. Ohhhh Michael, Bosco and Joey drama? Sounds like a great cast! But I’m not gonna get my hopes up, who knows who else will be cast in it

  2. I scared it might be too difficult if Joey try to have one later in life. It’s always good to have bb when you’re young while you can esp when your endurance can support the trauma.

    1. Trauma? LOL
Heard many claim that it was the happiest moment in their life, guess it’s different for everybody 🙂

    2. No, i meant they have trauma during the delivery process. Of course, having babies is always the happiest moment of life but it’s the during the process that scare most of the women hehe. Also, for older women who deliver their bb in natural way, they tend to have breathing difficulty due to weak body strength to “pusH” as the labour pain already ate up most of the women’s endurance.

      1. At any age pushing and breathing is difficult during labor. That’s why there are Lamaze classes.

    3. Ah I see 😀

Suppose it helps or soften the breathing problem by buiding up your “chi” by cardio exercises.

      It’s like delivering a “kamahameha” haha…

  3. I thought she already had kids? Isn’t she on her 40s?? If she waits any longer, it will just be harder for her to have kids. I think it is already a but late if she is already in her 40s. It is still possible, but is going to be harder.

    1. That can be done if she opt to have babies later her life.. just like Gigi Lai.. she’s getting a pair of boys soon.. With such money, she gets what she wants easily.

      1. Money definitely helps, but it does not always work. Carina Lau Ka-Ling tried very hard to have babies with Tony Leung, but she has not been successful yet.

      2. I think Carina has a bad lifestyle that reduce chances of conceiving.. she probably smokes like there is no tomorrow.

      3. Veejay
It could be right. Carina Lau never had a decent life until lately (I guess).

      4. Gigi obviously went through… I suppose IVF? That sort.

      5. In HK series we often hear they need like is it HKD4m to raise one child? Economics these days are not helpful when it comes to children but for actors, they can afford it. Perhaps timing is an issue. Carina is still trying to conceive I assume? Her age isn’t helping.

      6. Gigi Lai had all her pregnancies by IVF. That is the reason why she had twins so easily.

      7. Joey definitely needs PS.. she can passed a role as a mom.

      8. Yes, she can opt for IVF but it doesn’t always work because once the fertilized embryo is placed inside the woman again, there are high chances of the woman’s body rejecting it, causing a miscarriage. So fertilization is not the problem but rather how the body reacts to the embryo after is has been implanted back inside the woman.

  4. Joey Meng looked very old in the above photo. Both Joey Meng and Jessica Husan are 41 years old, but Joey looked so much older in this photo vs. Jessica in “Tiger Cubs”

    1. You know what is worse? She doesn’t look like the Joey Meng I remember. Jess still look like Jess. In fact Jess looks better now than she did years before. Joey Meng just looks absolutely different. And the above picture doesn’t help. Maybe some nice photoshoot and with good PS will help to do away with all these “Joey Meng looks different/haggard/old” but I suspect maybe marriage sometimes doesn’t do well for some I suppose? Like Jang Donggun. Look at how haggard he is now.

      1. Funn:

“She doesn’t look like the Joey Meng I remember. Jess still look like Jess. In fact Jess looks better now than she did years before. Joey Meng just looks absolutely different.” ………… Absolutely agree.

In fact, I watched an ATV legal drama series about 2 years ago, and Joey Meng looked so old in it. I did not recognize her at all until I listened to her dialogues.

    2. It’s just a bad photo. I’ve seen Joey Meng in ‘Fairytale Killer’ (a recent movie). She’s boney, but, she does not look older than Jess.

      1. Hopefully so. Maybe make up will do wonders. Yes it is a bad picture. But she is skinny.

  5. I couldnt recognise Joey at first glance of the pic, and I am surprise she looks so different now. I use to admire her beauty when she was with ATV doing those vampire series.

  6. Joey looks old in this picture! I always remember her as one of the most beautiful ATV or HK actress back then 🙁

    1. The photo makes Joey look haggard. Thanks for the clip. She does look nice and still sweet. Also, in the costume fitting for her series with Roger Kwok, she looks pretty and is still in good shape.

    2. Kidd
Thanks for your link. Joey Meng looked a bit better and younger on the video clip.

  7. I’m excited to see what the Joey/Michael Miu series would be about.
