Kris Wu Sells Shanghai Home to Pay Tax Evasion Fines

Currently serving his 13-year sentence for rape and assembling a crowd to engage in sexual promiscuity, Canadian-Chinese singer Kris Wu (吳亦凡) is said to be offloading his financial assets to help pay for his outstanding tax evasion fines.

Last November, Kris was found guilty of tax fraud practices by concealing his personal income through falsified business transactions from 2019 to 2020. The Beijing Municipal Taxation Bureau imposed fines for back payments totaling 600 million Chinese yuan.

It is said that Kris listed his Shanghai home, which was sold for 115 million Chinese yuan below its market value of CNY 128 million. According to a source, the 4,000-square-foot home is located in a prime location of Shanghai and the original listing price was already a steal. Purchased in 2018, the fully-furnished unit features riverside views and a minimalistic interior design, with all imaginable amenities including a gym. The building is steps away from the Bund along the Huangpu River.

According to the agent who handled the transaction, the unit was not sold under Kris’ name likely for privacy reasons. It is also rumored that this unit is only a small part of Kris’ assets, and he has currently entrusted others to help manage his properties and financial assets.
