Leo Luo and Zhou Shen’s Fans Argue

The Labor Day holiday is one of the busiest periods for China’s music market each year. This year, there were reportedly around 60 large scale concerts and nearly 30 music festivals. One such event was Taihu Bay Music Festival held in Changzhou featuring performers Leo Luo Yunxi (羅雲熙) and Zhou Shen (周深). But a dispute broke out between their fans over claims that Leo’s performance ran overtime and cut into Zhou Shen’s performance time, as well as over competition for the best fan support spots. News of the fights even trended online.

Leo was one of the final performers and was scheduled to perform from 8 to 8:30 pm while Zhou Shen’s set was scheduled to begin at 8:50 p.m. However, Zhou Shen’s fans claimed that Leo’s performance ran until 8:43 pm, leaving Zhou Shen’s team only 7 minutes to prepare their equipment. In response, Leo’s fans shared video evidence claiming his performance only lasted 34 minutes, just 4 minutes overtime, and argued that Zhou Shen exceeded his own schedule, performing for 43 minutes and 12 seconds instead of the planned 40 minutes. This led to a fierce online argument full of mutual accusations and hostility.

To help ease the tension, Leo and Zhou Shen took a friendly photo together backstage. Leo also posted that Zhou Shen was like an old friend even though they had just met for the first time because Zhou Shen had sung the theme songs for many of Leo’s dramas. Zhou Shen’s studio also released a statement urging fans to watch performances rationally, cherish every encounter, and work together to foster a more friendly and orderly cultural and online environment.

Commenting on the dispute, Beijing Daily stated, “Being a fan is a journey in learning how to be a better version of oneself and adopting the admirable traits of one’s idols. One shouldn’t cause disruption in the name of admiration nor start conflicts in the name of protection.” Cover News also published an article saying that rather than engaging in fan wars, artists building their reputations through great performances is the best path to recognition. It encouraged everyone to stay calm about minor overtime issues and enjoy the moments when stars are performing.

  1. Zhou Shen does not have a issue…no need to start fanwar on his behalf at all… he will not like it and he does not like such fights.. if you are truly his fan, you should know him.
