Summary (May contain spoilers. Read at your own risk!!)

The Shing family were on holiday in Macau. Wilson (Steven Ma) saw a poster of a pole dancer Jojo (Fala Chen) and found her very attractive. He managed to save her from her ex-boyfriend and they became friends. The holiday has ended and Wilson returned to Hong Kong hoping that his relationship with Jojo could go further.

Wilson and his father were solicitors for Ko Wing Tai (Lau Dan) who was a wealthy man. Wilson bumped into Jojo but she often gave him the cold shoulder and was not very friendly towards him. She seemed really interested in Ko Wing Tai and Wilson thought that she was after him for money. It turned out that Jojo was an alliance of Jessie (Yoyo Mung) and they were ordered by someone to harm Ko Wing Tai. Jojo was told to seduce Ko Wing Tai but she could not do it since she really liked Wilson.

Jessie then made Jojo say that she was Ko Wing Tai’s illegitimate daughter. Jojo agreed to help Jessie since Jessie said that her family were in danger and they must follow the plan. Jojo managed to persuade Ko Wing Tai that she was his daughter. Ko Wing Tai’s son Wing (Kenny Wong) did not like Jojo and often disobeyed his father. He began to do illegal dealings and ended up in prison.

Meanwhile, Jojo and Wilson developed their romance.

Jessie has been hiding a woman inside her home and it turned out that the woman was her mother. Jessie was the “big boss” behind the scheme because she wanted to seek revenge against Ko Wing Tai for stealing money from her mother and making their lives miserable. Jojo discovered the truth and was not happy with Jessie. Wilson took Jessie’s mother to see Ko Wing Tai and explained the whole thing to him. He was not happy that Jojo had lied to him. Jessie did not really accept her father. Her mother then died and Jessie got really angry with Ko Wing Tai. He was then murdered and the two suspects were Jojo and Jessie.

Jessie was with Wilson on the night of the murder and Jojo was suspected. Ko Wing Tai also left a large amount of inheritance to Jojo. However, Jessie wanted the money and found a lawyer to sue Jojo for the inheritance. Jessie won since she was Ko Wing Tai’s biological daughter.

However Jessie was mysteriously killed and the police suspected that Jojo was the culprit. However, it turned out that it was Fai who had killed Jessie because Wing had ordered him to do so. Wing was imprisoned along with Fai.

Characters/Acting

Steven Ma as Wilson Shing Wai Shun

I find it really annoying when TVB makes their characters so perfect and like an ideal lover. Steven’s character was absolutely flawless! And very unrealistic!! Would a guy really down a whole cup of spicy sauce for a girl? Yes the girl is beautiful but still… Anyway in terms of acting skills, Steven gets top marks. His performance was brilliant as a lawyer and he did have that professional look anyway.

Fala Chen as Jojo Hung Long Kiu

I really liked her character here because it was so unpredictable. At first you thought she might be a gold digger and would marry an older man for money. Also I loved the fact that you cannot really tell whether she liked Wilson or not. The role really suited Fala and I cannot think of a more suitable actress in TVB to play this role. This character is supposed to be beautiful and Fala’s acting here is so good!! I like her playing this type of role rather than the innocent, young girl type. Definitely one of my favourite characters played by Fala.

Yoyo Mung as Jessie Kwan Ho Ching

At first I thought that Fala had stolen the show. Yoyo next to Fala looked rather lame and Yoyo’s character seemed rather plain. However, as her character develops and you realise her plan, her acting really shone through and was very impressive. This is the first time I have seen Yoyo portray a villain and she did a great job. I loved the scene where she shouted at her father when her mum died. There were some other pretty intense scenes which were a breath of fresh air.

Kenny Wong as Ko Chung Wing

I was never a Kenny fan but I quite like his character in this series. He was cocky and rude but he portrayed the role really well. Very different from previous characters. At first I thought he should have swapped roles with Timmy Hung since that would have worked pretty well but he still did a good job here.

The Series overall

I really enjoyed this series and was pretty much drawn to it from the start. The theme video was pretty strange and this was a type of series you kind of have to watch to understand the storyline. The theme video did give away most of the plot though which was rather annoying. However, this series had a pretty good storyline. I am not sure whether Fala and Steven was a good couple in this series. I am so use to seeing Fala play Steven’s sister; it’s so weird when they are paired up. However, they did try to give Fala a much more mature image, probably to pull the gaps. Fala looked really pretty in this series too and this character is one of her best ones.

Overall:
I would rate this series 4/5. I would definitely give this series a shot. A series that I was really into right from the start.

  1. Thanks for the review! Haven’t seen it yet, but I was planning to watch it anyway. Can you or someone do a review on the drama The Handsome Siblings with Dicky Cheung, Nicholas Tse, and Fan Bingbing? Love that drama….

  2. Yea what up with tbh these days the dramas are getting so weird I mean a lot of the things that happened in this drama were like highly unlikely to happen and all because of a cellphone? But mAybe that what tv and TVB is for.

  3. agree with Anieasia, I like Steven and Yoyo but really hate Fala. Didn’t agree with Colly. The story line for Fala’s character is okay but Fala is not up to be a leading role yet. I never missed any new release by TVB but I couldn’t stand this series and that is the false of Fala as a leading actress.

    1. Yup! I cant stand this girl either. If only Yoyo was the lead then i will definitely watch it but since Fala is the lead Hell no! Cant stand her she’s so overrated

  4. I’m not sure what to make of this series. Not only did the storyline throw me off to the point I didn’t know what genre I was watching (is it a romance, drama, action, triad, business-type, comedy, family?) the theme song sung by Fala Chen was also no help. Finally I came up with the genre name, I called it: The Brink of Law 2. If you’ve seen The Brink of Law (also Steven Ma) then you may see thematic similarities but that series was by far better structured.

I always thought there would never be a series with Steven Ma as lead or support which I would not like. Conversely I always thought, naturally flowing from the first premise, there would never be a series with Steven Ma as lead or support which I would dislike. However… this one has made me revise my second proposition. What does this mean? It means me, and those of you in my shoes, do not understand well enough the laws of deductive reasoning.

  5. I did not like this series at all. I kinda stopped around episode 7. totally weird and not captivating.

  6. I really like this movie!!! At the beginning it was kinda wired but you have to watch the whole thing to get it. It was a great movie!!!

  7. Ok I’m watching this series right now and Fala’s character makes me really p.o.’d at her. I even like Yoyo’s character better than her. And seriously what’s up with that one background song that they keep playing over and over? The one where a lady is singing the same 2 words over and over. You zhu you zhu blah blah or whatever it is

  8. planning if you should watch this drama? i would say, give it a miss. only the first 5 and last 5 eps are nice. so from ep 6 to ep 14 i can only use one word to describe it. REDUNDANT.
very disappointed in this drama. what captivates me to watch this drama in the first place is the poster actually. looks mysterious and all. i was having the mindset that fala chen will be acting as a sexy pole dancer which i thought was very refreshing and a completely new role to her. so apparently, she only appear as a pole dancer for 1 or 2 ep?
although thats not the main problem obviously.. its just turns our very draggy and predictable. i can say that i wasted my time watching this drama. should have use the time to watch Only You instead.

  9. I just thought of two great title names for thise series: ‘Links to Illogicity’ or ‘Temptation to Watch Something Else’. Personally I prefer the former title but it might be a bit abstract and fails to tell the audience what the series is about… woops what irony I’ve gotten myself into! 🙂

    1. @ SDS LOLOLOL. I know this comments is made a while back but I have to say, SDS that was so funny!~

  10. The series was a total waste of time. I’ve never been a fan of Fala and after watching this series it’s become more apparent to me why. I would definitely prefer her as a support, but as a lead i don’t think she’s there yet.

  11. Hmmm im really confused to why everybody is bashing this drama so much. I was hook on this drama after thr ery first episode to the gert end/ there is alot of unexepcted event that happens in the second half if u watch it all the way through. I though it should even better nominated for one of thr five best dramas of the year. And im a really picky watcher!!!

  12. this show is being repeated on my cable channel.
    first few episodes were good..
and I normally like Steven Ma as an actor.
but he is so self righteous and whiney in the show I gave up watching.
otherwise the plot is pretty good.
