Mandy Wong (黃智雯) has been receiving praise for her role as Hugo Ng’s (吳岱融) daughter in the currently airing Secret Door <隱門>. Mandy’s portrayal of her character’s harsh, bitter life has been touching. Although a reliable lead, Mandy is said to be considering her options after her TVB contract ends.
Last summer, Mandy had finished filming and subsequently started work on Goodbye Pillow Mate <再見 • 枕邊人>. This ended in November 2022, and Mandy has not filmed another drama since then.
A graduate of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Mandy made her first stage play debut in 2020. Her performance in stage play Larger Than Life <超自然之戀> was praised by well-known New York theater site Broadway World. She was also nominated for Best Actress for the first time at the Hong Kong Drama Awards. Currently, Mandy is starring in yet another stage play titled Bhagavad Gita <薄伽梵歌>, which will start its run this Friday for ten shows.
Other than her usual filming and stage work, Mandy opened an online fashion store with her family this year and business has been good. With her side hustle coupled with the lack of dramas lined up Mandy is reportedly interested in trying her luck outside of TVB. The media has reported that Mandy’s contract with TVB is about to end and she has not renewed it yet.
In recent years many leading actresses including Kristal Tin (田蕊妮) and Natalie Tong (唐詩詠) have left the small screen for the stage as well. When the media reached out to TVB executive Virginia Lok (樂易玲) for a comment over speculations regarding Mandy’s departure, her staff replied, “No,” squashing all rumors.
