Nancy Wu, Joel Chan, Annie Liu, And More Run the HK Marathon

The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon celebrated its 20th edition on January 17, 2016. The popular mass participation event hosted about 61,000 runners, including celebrities such as Nancy Wu (胡定欣), Joel Chan (陳山聰), Ram Chiang (蔣志光), Annie Liu (劉心悠), Ava Yu (雨僑), Rose Chan (陳嘉桓), and more. Nancy is part of Joel’s running club crazyrunner. Many members from the club are TVB artists.

The participants faced unfamiliar weather conditions during the marathon. It was wet, cold, and the runners had to run in heavy rain during the majority of the time. Rose Chan said her running shoes got so soaked, her feet felt very heavy when she ran. Fortunately, she did not trip. However, she did witness some runners ripping the soles of their shoes as they rang. Ava Yu remarked that she has never ran under such extreme weather conditions before.

Actress Annie Liu shared that this year was her tenth year participating in the marathon. Annie has accumulated over 100 kilometers over the years. She intends to compete in overseas marathons as well, but would need to consult other runners before doing so. “I want to run 10 kilometers in Japan and Canada, but I’m not very familiar with the roads. After this experience, I also feel that weather plays a big factor.”

Due to the slippery ground, quite a few participants fell during the marathon. “I was fine, but I really do not have much experience running in the rain,” said Annie. “I also couldn’t see the road ahead of me. This year’s marathon was both a dangerous and special experience.”

Former HotCha member Crystal Cheung (張紋嘉) said the conditions were so intense, she had olfactory hallucinations halfway into her run. “I started to smell instant noodles. It smelled so good. It made me run faster so I can finish everything sooner and eat it.”

Unlike his colleagues, Joel Chan was very happy with the rainy weather. “What a great day,” he said. “I’ve been doing this for three years, and this year was by far the most comfortable. I’ve ran in the rain before, but it was never this intense. It was great.”

Nancy Wu kept her fans updated on her social media accounts while she was running the marathon. This year was Nancy’s first year participating the chartered event. She wrote on Instagram, “So exciting!”
