Raymond Lam Rehearses for Macau Concert; Mavis Pan Caught in Tsunami Fear

After performing at concerts in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, Raymond Lam (林峯) barely had time to rest before preparing for his upcoming concert in Macau.  He was currently rehearsing for his May 12th concert at The Venetian hotel and casino. Raymond revealed that the stage design budget was astronomical, in order to give audiences an ultimate sensory experience!

Raymond’s new Macau concert will be called “Light Up My Live, Raymond Lam Concert 2012: Macau.”  Since the theme will be “light,” the elaborate stage design will incorporate exhilarating beams of light to complement Raymond’s fast track songs. During the rehearsals, Raymond ran all over the stage to find the optimal positions for his performance.

Raymond stated, “The production costs are astronomical. I hope to give viewers visual enjoyment. I will try to put in my best efforts and shine on stage!”

Mavis Pan Changes Name; Draws Clear Lines from Raymond Lam

Raymond’s music career held a lot of promise. It was easy to forget that Raymond’s bed scandal with ex-girlfriend, Mavis Pan (潘霜霜), had taken place in March 2011. Since last year’s scandal, Mavis and Raymond allegedly have not seen each other in person. No matter what she did, backlash for Mavis appeared to follow her everywhere, forcing her to cry at a public event earlier.

Currently staying in Phuket, Thailand, Mavis was worried about a possible tsunami occurring after an earthquake in the coast of Indonesia on April 11th. She left an anxious message on her Weibo blog stating that she had to escape to the mountains to avoid danger. The 8.6 magnitude earthquake set off panic in Southeast Asia, as tremors were felt in Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Fortunately, a tsunami did not occur.

On her Weibo blog in late March, Mavis announced that she wished to change her name from Pan Shuangshuang to Pan Meilin (潘美霖). Apparently, she was ready to end the association of her name with Raymond in tabloids and fans’ minds. However, fans did not like the new name and recommended that she keep her old name, Pan Shuangshaung.

Jayne: I hope Raymond’s back pain is gone? Earlier, he reportedly would require steroid injections in order to numb his pain for his Australia concerts. After his May concert, he will presumably film his new movie?

Hopefully, all our friends in Southeast Asia’s nerves have calmed since the immediate tsunami danger is over.

  1. Why is it “Light Up My Live?” It’s grammatically incorrect. -_-

    1. Hannah,
I asked the same question. The marketing folks thought it was more memorable this way?

      1. Yah, they changed the title of one of his song “Light up my life” to make this name. Replacing “life” with “live” is to link the name with the nature of the concert – live singing. It sort of means this concert is a point where he stand up after a down time, sth like that. If they keep the word “life”, then it would not be as attached to the concert as “live”. I think it’s kind of creative and meaningful and better than his previous concert’s name, which did not really attach to him or his image at that time.

    2. Quite hilarious actually. I wonder if they realise that it doesnt make sense or probably they were thinking ‘light up my live concert’ when they came up with that name.

    3. The name doesn’t make sense. LIVE AND LIFE mean different things. They probably thought it meant the same. lol

    4. “Live” hear stands for live singing, not “life”. They play with words.

    5. Guess that they want to play with the words a bit. His song is Light up my life and live and life sound kinda similar.

  2. not a fan of Raymond but do wish him get better soon. He should just take a couple of months off for his back pain.

    1. take a COUPLE of MONTHS off??!! Even if he wanted not even a week but 2 days off, he wouldn’t be able to have it. He’ll never get a couple of months off. I wish he could rest too! But I think he’s doin better than Tavia though who is high fevering while shooting in Shanghai from 5am – 2am!! I feel sorry for the both of them!!

      1. Last time when filming Fa crap series, he had to work from 6AM to 5AM with hurt on neck. And in Perfect wedding-MWNS-The Jade and the pearl filming time (3 together), he had to work 3 days with no rest. An assistant followed him at this period and after that, the assistant had to stay on hospital 3 days because of exhausted. Not any better for him, if it isn’t worse. This schedule became an rule for Txb artists in Txb series. They infamous with it.

  3. Mavis story is so over and the reporter still linking her with LF again?..so boring.

  4. Raymond’s concert in Sydney was quite empty. It wasn’t filled – I’d say 60-70% capacity? All the ppl who bought cheap tickets at the peak (peak tickets) could actually run down to touch raymond’s hair lol…. Couldn’t even fill up Sydney Entertainment Centre and its quite smallish compared to other venues.

    1. But isn;t 70% capacity considered good? I mean is he that famous in western country to command 100% capacity?

    2. not really, maybe that number was being a bit optimistic. usually with most concerts, most cheap tickets are sold out, but with Raymond’s one, lots of empty sections in the cheapest ticket range.

most expensive was $248aud, cheapest was $78aud. (quite expensive – coz lots of hk singers had their cheapest at $48aud). Yeh i think management increased the prices too high and ppl thought Raymond wasn’t worth that much. *shrugs*

compared to other hk singers that’s been here, like sammi cheng, joey yung, eason chan, jacky cheung, even Show Luo had more. S.H.E a few years ago was jammed packed too.

As much as ppl say Raymond is huge in HK and China, his popularity doesn’t reflect so otherwise in Sydney.

      1. Um, i was at the concert and i have to fix a few things you’ve said. The most expensive ticket was VVIP which was $298 and the cheapest was $78. From what i know, everything was sold out while there were limited seats left for the $148 and the $198 ticket. I don’t know about you but the amount of people there wasn’t that bad.. well of course it can’t be compared with the asian countries like HK, Malaysia, Singapore.. etc where of course there would be more supporters and a bigger stage (plus, tickets there are cheaper).

Here is a clip for anyone interested to see the amount of people/stage .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1krH446RG0

Overall, i enjoyed his concert. 🙂 Hoping he’ll come back one day.

      2. Are you sure you are in that concert, fez? What I know it’s completely sold out and well pack!!Kindly make your statement right!!

    3. How do you know :P? You are there? Why even the price you can’t rmb?

And funny that actually Sydney Entertainment Centre themselves said that the tickets are sold out. Oops.

      1. LUML ‘s concert in melbourne is completely sold out

    4. I went to Twins concert in Sydney couple of years ago and it was pack full.

    5. That’s cause lots of people go back to HK in the summer when his concerts usually are, so if he brings the concert to other contries, not as much people watch it since they already did during their summer holiday.

      1. Not really. Ppl from HK also went to Aus concert and in fact, Melbourne and Sydney concerts both are full. Maybe fez went to wrong concert, lol.

  5. Ahhh the title is incomplete! The actual title is

“Raymond Lam Rehearses for Macau Concert; Mavis Pan Caught in Tsunami Fear; Turns out Raymond Lam is the tsunami”

I can’t understand why these 2 are brought together in 2 separate news into one single article. But saves space I suppose.

    1. B/c unless PSS is linked to LF, nobody cares about her… much less if she’s lost in a tsunami.

      1. PSS was obviously trying to make name for herself when she leaked out those sleeping photos. I never trust her for seeking revenge whatsoever with LF. Look at LF, despite the photo leaking, he’s still famous in asia but some of his songs are really good.

      2. If seeing the position of PSS and Viann, clearly that Viann is more successful with her career after scandal than PSS. PSS seems not too focus on career like Viann.

      3. I guess once you go out with anyone in the circle, your name will forever be linked to them regardless of how long it has been…

      4. @looooo
If only Viann was doomed too (or will be doomed soon)!

      5. PSS should change her name and refigure a new face to look for a new identity where she revamp herself as a brand new artist since she is plastic surgery fanatic

    2. LOL, or maybe

“Raymond Lam Rehearses for Macau Concert; Mavis Pan Caught in Tsunami Fear; LF turns into super-saiyan, saves PSS from death, rekindle their love and gets married in Vegas” 🙂

      1. ““Raymond Lam Rehearses for Macau Concert; Mavis Pan Caught in Tsunami Fear; Raymond Lam Fung nowhere to be seen; Mavis Pan gets swept away by the Tsunami in heartbreak, but not before she took some self taken photos; Raymond Lam cries, the supply for Kleenex lower; Raymond Lam says “The show must go on but will be renamed ‘Live in wet’ and water will be my main theme”

      2. Hahaha…

Raymond Lam says “The show must go on but will be renamed ‘Live in wet with snow flowing’ LF throws his used kleenex around like crazy trying to make a scenery of “snow flowing” His fans fight one another for the “snowflakes”, many gets hurt and the whole concert turns into a disaster with LF screaming CHOOOK!

      3. Not a bad ending. Bonus is Linda crying a river, come back to Vancouver. Philip ran to her, second happy ending in Vegas.

        Happy days.

      4. BTW, exoidus, your recommendation on snow is quite interesting if it can be real.

    1. If i’m not mistaken, chinese believe that by changing your name will eventually change your lucks or destiny. PSS’ last name doesn’t relate to LF at all, I think the article meant to say PSS changed her name so she can have a better fate in future without LF.

      1. Here’s a couple of suggestions:

        1. Pan Lam Lam
        2. Pan Shuang Lam

Since she seems desperate for attention these might suit her, LOL

      2. Just that 霖 pronounces the same as 林. However I blv she wanted to change to 霖 because it writes quite similar to 霜. Only the right low part is different.

It isn’t the first time she wants to change name. But in the end, she’ll change it back. So can say that her parents give her the best name, no need to change much.

      3. What is her real name anyways? didn’t she change her name so many times in the past already?? I don’t think changing her name will do her any good.

      4. If PSS is her real name then she should just keep it. I don’t think that changing her name will do her any good.

      5. When she was with Ray, she is aptly named as Pan Shuang (double) shuang (Double) but since she is now single, maybe Pan Dan (single) Dan (single), which is most probably a name favoured by some porno actress so I won’t recommend that.

Mavis itself should be changed. Not catchy enough, why not Marvel..

      6. Oh Pan Meilin? Nice name, girly. But for more oomph, why not Pan Meiai? Since she is without her one true love… then when reunited, Pan Youai … when part again Pan wei (why) ai and when get together again Pan Jaiai and then part for good Pan Duo (stolen) ai and when marry, Pan Zhen(true) Ai.

      7. ROFL, well it shouldn’t be “mei ai” unless she didn’t really loved LF. “Mo ai” is more appropriate for her if she is still single or will remain so in the future 🙂

      8. @HTS: Up to this moment, she is still PSS. She just asked if it’s good to change name.

  6. Why do stage designs have to be so elaborate and expensive? After all it’s the singing that counts most. Maybe I’m old fashioned but I prefer it when the stage is minimally decorated but the singing good. Anyway, I hope Raymond’s back pain has gone and I wish him all the best.

    1. Simple; because he is not known as first and foremost a singer. He is an entertainer. Even Jacky Cheung had to resort to gimmicks and props. Try asking Aaron Kwok to ditch the pyros and rotating stage and what nots? He will say “NO!”

Which is why I love Fukuyama Masaharu but even he had at least 2 costume changes (as in take out his jacket-considered costume change but he changed guitars more than jackets) per concert plus some fireworks and fire as well.

      It’s all about entertainment really.

    2. Simply, because now ppl watch more than hear. There are ppl who like to hear but many others like to watch. Have you ever asked why Kpop is that famous?

    3. I think having a good concert is not just about good singing only. You have to have a good atmosphere and other things too. You have the best voice in the world, but if your stage is not nicely decorated then people will not enjoy your concert as much. People like to see not only hear. It’s kind of like, if you are a singer with a good voice but don’t look that great. People will not like you as much as they should even if they enjoy your singing…

  7. Hopefully he can slow down so his back can fully heal. Raymond has slim down a lot these past few years. I like him best when he had a bit more meat on him, maybe around 2008.

    1. he looks really cute during around probably 2006-2009 and after that.. he just looked plain tired. 🙁

  8. Have heard of this illness alot from others. Highly recommend Ray take qi gong kung fu to help with this physical pain.

And that goes the same for any who have physical pain. Qi gong kung fu is good form of exercise to build strength and recover from illnesses.

  9. Wish Raymond the best of luck at his concert! I also hope that he can rest and recover from his illness before it gets to the point that he cannot recover again. All of the fame and fortune in the world cannot buy back your health!!!

    1. @HTS:I so totally agree with you. He is just aggravating his back problem with his work. Get some rest and let that back heals.

      1. He is working for Txb and we all know how Txb’s works schedule.

    2. Yes ! He really need a real rest and real recover , nothing important than that, wish him well…

  10. Ray should take lots of cordyceps & ginseng….lol….. my mum would recommend that!

    1. too much ginseng will penetrates his mandom to commit another foolish PSS scene again

    1. rest is important but i am greedy for more upcoming work produced by him
