Ruco Chan and Edwin Siu Dismiss Jealousy Over Money

Like their onscreen counterparts, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) are protective of their brotherly bond. Gaining popularity after starring in 2013’s Brother’s Keeper <巨輪>, both see an increase in job offers and new opportunities to rise within TVB. Although the two shared equally important roles in the drama, it seems that Edwin has become sponsors’ favorite. Earlier reports suggest that Ruco may be harboring jealousy over Edwin’s numerous money-making gigs.

Although their appeal may be drastically different, Ruco and Edwin share many things in common, particularly in their career progression. Both dabbled in singing early on, though that path was cut short; Ruco was dropped from his label after releasing just a few singles, while Edwin was “exiled” from the local music industry after the media accused him of mocking his losing opponents at an awards after party. Ruco later joined ATV, and Edwin kept a low-profile while taking acting jobs in Mainland China.

In 2008, both returned to TVB and were assigned supporting roles. With a lack of young, talented first-line actors, Ruco quickly attracted TVB’s attention and was given successive leading roles in many major productions. Edwin also got his first taste of leading status in Brother’s Keeper. Although his career grooming is less aggressive, Edwin’s lovable character in the series won him many event appearances and endorsement contracts. He also became the face of the marketing campaign for Koi Kei Bakery, the major sponsor and story inspiration behind Brother’s Keeper.

While Edwin is busy padding his wallet, Ruco spends most of his time at the studio shooting for his many upcoming series. Since the two share the same manager, some alleged that Ruco is unhappy that he is missing out on these money-making engagements.

Ruco and Edwin seem to be on good terms however at a promotional shoot on March 12. Edwin denied the speculation and assured that they are making money together. “It’s not true. Our relationship actually became stronger over time. We just performed together at Genting, and we will continue to make appearances together.”

Ruco also assures that they maintain a close friendship. “Whether we receive a job offer or not depends on the clients. Edwin and I have known each other since primary school; we’re linked by fate. These gossips will not affect our friendship.”

    1. They went to same school I think. It was mentioned last time in one of the interview.

    2. They were in the same ping pong team!

      Well, that’s what I’ve heard.

    3. previously saw in an article at another blog that they were classmate in Standard Six … both of them also mention at the Genting concert that they were schoolmates … they even ask the crowd whether anyone know, someone say yes so Ruco jokingly ask how did you know? you were from the same school as us? … at the Genting concert Ruco said that he couldnt recognize Edwin when he first met him again at tvb, then later only discovered that they were schoolmate.

  1. Linked by fate? That’s sweet. Idk about these gigs, but I would choose Ruco over Edwin any day!

  2. Ruco definitely has more appeal than Edwin as first lead. Despite all these talk that edwin is the lead actor in Brother’s Keeper, it is pretty obvious that the male lead is Ruco, even the last two episodes focused solely on Ruco’s character. It is only natural that Edwin is Koi Kei’s choice for spokesperson as the character he portrayed in BK is based loosely in that of its boss. Ruco’s also clearly the star attraction in the Genting concert, given the fact that he was the one to close the show. I doubt Ruco’s unhappy with Edwin making more money as his own career isnt doing too badly. The two guys look like pretty good friends to me.

  3. How come so many rubbish news! Need to report some good about Ruco lol. Everything lately is just nonsense.

    1. I noticed that too. So many articles on Ruco but all nonsense gossip.

      1. Yes I’m sick of it!! Although he is popular with some many news and dramas on but it’s not good news! Dating, cheating, money jealously… People won’t have good impression on him.

  4. The thing about Edwin is he is easier to market in the sense he can be everyday’s man. He can be goofy, he can be serious, he can be anything, therefore I understand his appeal with advertisers whilst Ruco is more difficult to pigeonhold even TVB is trying their best to pigeonhold him into misunderstood non-villain in serious drama with action sequences or just plain misunderstood. Edwin also has the luck of often cast in male oriented series whilst Ruco is more like Kong Wah; babysitting the lesser actresses or when good luck comes and he stars with A-listers, the script is just absolute failure.

See Ruco as this way. He can be the next Kong Wah. Not poor, not unknown and always warmly remembered as one of TVB’s best actor, ATV’s best export apart from Esther Kwan and one I am sure many eagerly hopes will come back one day.

Ruco doesn’t care. In one interview he said he believes if he works hard, he does well, reward in terms of financial gains will come. Of course that is too Kenneth Ma style as in not promoting himself more but there is a sense of quiet integrity in that.

Perhaps when he is married with child he will promote himself harder.

An artists should have gossips; bad news is better than no news. So far Ruco has handled every gossip brilliantly, so just enjoy how he deflects every gossip, scandal thrown his way.

Either that or he is good at masking his real feelings.

Either way, he is an actor and he is doing his job pretty well.

As for me, Ruse of Engagement is coming soon and I have been asked to do episodic thoughts. I want to but I fear no one will wanna watch with me or rather read what I write and not watch because of the female co-star effect which I shall call Ruco’s female co-star dilemma.

    1. I’m watching with u this time. Not going to let one tree (Aimee) ruin the whole forest lol.

    2. if you dont make it 20 pages per episode then i think there sure will be readers, and i think the story and actors make it quite interesting to watch.

    3. I like both of them. If you watch super trio maximus, Edwin is really funny and witty. While Ruco, he is this serious guy and more quite.

    4. Funn, I am an ardent follower of your blog (Point2Entertainment). Thank you so much for all your opinions and reviews on CP’s works and personalities. I may not agree with all your comments but I truly respect your honest and impartial opinions and your ability to see things from multiple perspectives.
Totally agree with your observation on his character, he is a tad too introvert on self-promotion, probably not a good thing in entertainment industry. TVB and media were all silent on his performance in GPS and BK last year but he seems ok with this cold treatment, he even consoled disappointing fans that award is not his priority and that what matters most to him is support from fans and opportunities to play characters that can touch the audience.

    5. And please write episodic thoughts for Ruse of Engagement. It was an enjoyable experience after Outbound Love to read your review after watching the series.

  5. The ‘One’ media is boycotted by tbb. Since Ruco is so hot lately, they bad mouth him as a revenge for tbb, esp when ROE will be aired soon. For the role in BK, Ruco’s 1st lead but Edwin’s heavily promoted and given more screen time. However, Ruco won majority compliments with his awesome acting, so no point that Edwin can surpass him.

  6. Next Magazine just made up bad stories…they are not invited for tvb promos

  7. Between those boys i like Edwin more, his smile 🙂

  8. Surprising how Edwin earns more than Ruco, when Ruco is kinda better at acting. But I feel that Edwin can act in more kinds of roles (funny & cute guy in Daddy Good Deeds, evil villain in The Last Steep Ascent, etc.) as compared to Ruco who has that serious look on his face.. Although this might be a biased point of view, since I like Edwin and not Ruco.

    1. Edwin is more versatile in terms of looks hence his marketability but I am always conscious of the fact that he is acting. I find him at best a mediocre actor.

And marketability has nothing to do with acting abilities. Worser actresses have earned more in ads than those who are better actresses (charmaine sheh is one prime example).

      1. Even so.. I’d still look forward to his acting.. hehe.

Yeah, I agree with that. Better looking people are always on ads.

      2. Wait! Wait! I think Ruco is more handsome than Edwin. Whilst Ruco may look mature, Edwin at times dresses and smiles like old China man!!

      3. @Funn That’s…mean D: But I agree that Ruco is handsome. And hot. @choco-bunny But… I saw him during January in SG..

      4. Hee hee vc, I thought you didn’t see him of late cos if you did, you’ll know what Funn means. Anyway while I think Edwin looks ok, Ruco’s much hotter with a killer physique to boot.

      5. @choco-bunny Hahaha~ I always look at his Weibo updates though.. he looks rather haggard recently. Ruco does look manlier than Edwin, but I still like Edwin more. hehehe.

      6. Puhlez, no need for 6 packs to look hot and manly, just slim and toned in the right places will do. Bulging muscles from pumping too much iron is ugly, IMO and look so gay.

      7. @choco-bunny What do you mean by not ageing well? O.o @Funn But I think he’s been doing (Thai?) boxing lately, in preparation for a drama. Maybe we’ll be seeing some six packs soon haha.

      8. Choco bunny you are a disgusting piece of work. Look in the mirror and you will know the definition of ugly from the outside to the inside. Looking gay? Someone like your husband? Lmao

      9. So beer bellies are “spartaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!”and six packs are ” you are fabulous”?

        Give me gay anytime!!!

By the way who is balding?

      10. But slim and toned still flabby. I don’t mean bulging six packs but a bit more toned will look very nice. Not like he is naked anytime soon. Looks good wearing clothes should be fine. Got forbid he is like Chilam zero fat body some time back!

      11. Clover, wow so much hatred just becos I think bulging muscles look gay! Are you gay???

  9. vc,he’s balding at the corners of his hairline O.o

  10. @choco-bunny hair problems maybe lol. xD @Funn heard that he loves to eat though.. Haha maybe that’s why he’s so flabby

  11. i really think that edwin and Ruco chan would know
that if they want more of dismiss jealously over money
because a lot of people said that the brother’s keeper was a good tv film last year in 2013 so i think that they jealous about that HEHEHEHE>>>……..
