Samantha Ko Wants to Win Best Supporting Actress
With the TVB Anniversary Awards around the corner, many are curious which artistes will win on January 12. Samantha Ko (高海寧) has three nominations this, which include Best Actress and My Favorite Actress for My Commissioned Lover <婚姻合伙人> and Best Supporting Actress for Barrack O’Karma <金宵大廈>. The 32-year-old actress believes she has the most chance in winning Best Supporting Actress.
In Barrack O’Karma, Samantha played a Tiger Mom in which many applauded her for her amazing acting. Samantha said, “I was very surprised because I was only in two episodes, which meant I didn’t have a lot of screen time. I want to thank the producer and director for trusting me with this role. It was not just me, this character came to life thanks to everyone on the team. I am grateful I got to work with my onscreen son and Chan Ka Fai (陳嘉輝). Hopefully this role will bring good results.”
Believing her best chances for an award is through her performance in Barrack O’Karma, Samantha said, “I have confidence. In the past, I didn’t dwell on awards. But I’ve acted in more dramas in recent years and a lot of people have been complimenting me and noticing my improvement. I believe if I win, it is a recognition of my work and the people who support me.”
As for her Best Actress nomination, Samantha believes she still has a lot of room for improvement, especially against this year’s strong contenders. She said, “Kara Wai (惠英紅) was amazing in The Defected <鐵探>, so I believe she has a big chance. However, I know that Selena Lee (李施嬅) in Barrack O’Karma and Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) in Wonder Women <多功能老婆> are also top favorites. How do I stand a chance?”
Asked whether she is fully confident in winning Best Supporting Actress, Samantha said, “I don’t think I have 100 percent chance to win, but if I do, I will thank everyone.”
