Sammi Cheng Wins Best Actress at Hong Kong Film Awards

The Hong Kong Film Awards has announced its winners and Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文) took home the Best Actress Award and the Best Original Film Song for the film Lost Love <流水落花> and its theme song “Live a Day” <我這樣活了一天>. The win marks a major milestone as Sammi had been nominated for the Best Actress Award 10 times throughout her career before finally being able to take home the hard-earned award.

Sammi’s acting and singing were recognized in Lost Love where she plays a grieving mother who welcomes a child in her family through fostering. In the film, Sammi showcased her natural and sincere performance acting skills which has already pushed Sammi to winning the Best Actress Award at the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards held just a few days ago.

For her winning speech, Sammi shared, “First of all, I want to say that it is an honor to compete with these four outstanding actors this year. This award has always been out of my reach and I have always been thinking about how to improve my acting skills and change. I have walked a long path. Along the way, I have gone from meeting people who didn’t believe in me to having a transformation right now.”

Sammi also took the opportunity to thank the production crew and made a tribute to her family, “This award is due to your joint efforts and dedication. My father likes art a lot and I seem to have fulfilled his dream. I want to say to people who have dreams, remember this image of me. Dreams are for people who never give up.”

Meanwhile, Sean Lau (劉青雲) won the Best Actor Award for his role in Detective vs Sleuths <神探大戰>. This was the third time the actor had won the title at the Hong Kong Film Awards and the actor said in his winning speech, “Thank you for the team for spending this lonely night with me. Thank you to the team and my wife. They watched the movie everyday.”
