Song Hye Kyo in Talks to Star in “Now, We Are Breaking Up”

It’s been a while since viewers saw South Korean actress Song Hye Kyo on the small screen – the last time was when she worked with Park Bo Gum on Encounter, which aired from late 2018 to early last year. However, recent reports are instilling hope within fans, as the 38-year-old is currently in discussion to take on the role of a designer in the upcoming drama Now, We Are Breaking Up.

Now, We Are Breaking Up centers on middle-aged women trying to find a balance between love, work, and family. The main character is 38-year-old Ha Young Eun, a tough and realistic design team leader at a fashion company. Smart and cautious, she believes that it is useless to mull over men and is determined to achieve both beauty and success on her own.

Reportedly, the production team invited Hye Kyo to play Young Eun twice. According to sources, after the actress initially rejected the offer, they alternatively attempted to cast Park Soo Ae. However, Soo Ae dropped out due to scheduling conflicts, so the team gave it another go and made a second offer to Hye Kyo. In response to the rumors, her agency UAA shared, “She is still considering the offer.”

Since Hye Kyo only accepted advertisement and photoshoot jobs after news broke that she divorced Song Joong Ki in 2019, fans are excited about her potential acting comeback. Moreover, Now, We Are Breaking Up will be helmed by a strong team, so the drama is expected to be of high quality. It is written by Misty (2018) screenwriter Je In and directed by Lee Gil Bok, who worked on Dr. Romantic 2 (2020) and My Love From the Star (2013).
