“Stranger Anniversary” Cut by 5 Episodes Due to Poor Viewership
After two weeks of airing, Stranger Anniversary <雙生陌生人> starring Joe Ma (馬德鐘), Roxanne Tong (湯洛雯), and Alice Chan (陳煒) continued its low viewership of 13.5 points. On May 14, TVB announced that the drama will be cut from 25 episodes to 20.
The original 25-episode version will be placed onto its online streaming service myTVSUPER after it has finished airing on television. Many netizens expressed pity at TVB’s decision, stating that it was a waste of the crew’s hard work and dedication.
In an interview, Joe shared a Chinese proverb to express his thoughts on the cutting of the drama, “Only those who drink the water will know if it is hot or cold.” He trusted TVB will make the best decision. “The condensing of the drama will make the pace faster–I wonder if TVB will also edit a movie version as well?”
Roxanne shared that she is currently busy filming another drama, and has not had time to watch Stranger Anniversary but she plans to do so when her schedule is free.
It is rumored that TVB plans to air Brutally Young 2.0 <十八年後的告白2.0> afterward. Two years ago, the original series hit a high of 29.7 points during its final episode, so TVB has high hopes for the sequel and scheduled many promotional events to help boost viewership.

Gonna happen more and more. TVB is only good for 1-2 half decent series per year. Rest is just unwatchable.
I started watching it and couldn’t finish 1 episode. I think the biggest turnoff is the casting. As much as I like Joe Ma, I think he was miscast here. He is too old to be playing a cutesy character… or rather, maybe he’s not too old per se, but it just doesn’t fit his image/persona. Not sure about the storyline, but I just wish it was a better pairing with Roxanne.
I agree that Joe & Roxanne is a bad pairing. I recently rewatched Beauty Knows No Pain and he was so good in it with Maggie Cheung.
im not surprised alot of ppl i know started off with a few eps then stopped watching entirely i couldnt even pass eps 2
Honestly Joe is such a miscast. I find it hard to watch Roxanne and him together without cringing. Matthew and Angel are great in this. Winki is meh, her character is kind of annoying.
I know they stopped airing this but the episodes are still online. I find the story okay so I’ll keep watching but Joe really throws it off for me.
