Tony Leung and Andy Lau Reunite in “The Goldfinger” After 20 Years

Megastars Tony Leung (梁朝偉) and Andy Lau (劉德華) can be seen in thriller, The Goldfinger <金手指>, which will premiere worldwide on December 30. Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍), Simon Yam (任達華), Alex Fong (方中信), and Philip Keung (姜皓文) round out the stellar cast.

Set in the 1980s, the film is based on the story of Carrian Group, a conglomerate multi-industry corporation that expanded rapidly, but also saw a quick collapse due to major corruption and fraud. Tony stars as the founder of a multi-billion-dollar company, who is based on the real life George Tan, founder of the Carrian Group. His nemesis is Andy’s character, an investigator of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

The last time Andy and Tony collaborated was more than 20 years ago in the Infernal Affairs <無間道> franchise. Their reunion is the biggest draw for The Goldfinger.  Andy expressed, “After reading the script, I asked Felix Chong (莊文強) ‘Who will play opposite me? It wouldn’t be Tony, would it?’ Felix nodded, and that’s when I signed on to this project.”

Sharing the same sentiment, Tony added, “When I read a script, my first choice in partner is always Andy. I guess this is fate. During our days at [TVB], we were great partners. We are able to collaborate again after 20 years. Each time we work together, it is always a great time. When we filmed Duke of Mount Deer <鹿鼎記>, we had just started in the industry. We were both very hardworking and serious about our jobs. We had a lot of work every day and barely any personal time to hang out, but that is how our relationship grew and matured and became what it is today–the chemistry, compatibility, and trust between us as actors. We remain good friends until now.”

Sharing a romantic triangle with both lead actors, Charlene felt excited and nervous at the same time. “They are my idols in and out of the film. I had watched their works growing up and they had a big influence on me. Every time I work with Andy, he makes me feel safe and secure.”

  1. Looking forward to this!! I enjoy them in Duke of Mount Deer – Classic!

Btw, had anyone read about the recent rumours of Tony and his young girlfriend with a baby? Anyone knows if that may be true? I have known he does enjoy companies with other younger girls and Carina has her own lifestyle away from Tony too. Really open relationship. Not mine to judge as long as both have their own agreement… Just like a old traditional Chinese household mentality…

    1. @Hohliu I didn’t follow that news but the young girlfriend you mentioned should be idol singer Cheng Xiao (程潇). If I’m not wrong the news sort of die off since many do not believe it.
Their version of Duke of Mountain Deer is the best in my opinion though Jordan’s version is very well liked.
It’s nice to see their relationship getting better with age. Recall things were not that well between them when Andy decided to leave TVB and Tony stayed for a little while more.
I don’t see an issue in open relationship if all are consensus from the couple to the added partners. As long as no one is being deceived and suffering from it although I wonder why then get married.

      1. And they have no kids…to kids to be hurt by their open marriage. It works for them.

        Yes, it is Cheng Xiao…

      2. Tony Leung have released a statement to refute the rumours… That is good…sometimes, keeping quiet is not always good.

    2. The rumour came out of nowhere but chinese industry especially HK rumours are mostly accurate. The starlet is missing, didn’t see her statement. So we shall see…

  2. No other actress? Must be Charlene who can’t even speak well, more so act well. Whilst age wise a 20 year gap is ok since she’s no spring chicken, they can’t find a more veteran actress befitting these 2 mega stars and chose an actress who speaks with a nasal voice?
