Taiwanese artiste Vivian Hsu’s (徐若瑄) new single is out and while promoting her new song, which is about infidelity, she candidly revealed that she was once cheated upon. The experience was even more hurtful because she had walked in on an ex-boyfriend cheating.
Recalling the painful experience, Vivian was outside of her then-boyfriend’s house. Although the lights and television were visibly on, her boyfriend insisted that he was not home and was out with friends. Boldly, Vivian approached the house and rang the doorbell. “When the door opened, there was a current of soap and shampoo scent, mixed in with cigarette smoke. I cannot forget that smell and still remember it clearly to this day. Even though my whole body was shaking, I stepped inside the house because I needed to see who was inside. Sure enough, there was someone in [the bathroom], and she was very beautiful too.”
The anger she felt was too much for words. Vivian continued, “Although I felt like passing out, I did not pass out. Nor did I crawl out of there. I walked off very assuredly. I turned around slowly, and could not mutter a single word, because I did not know what to say. I turned and walked away slowly. I didn’t know what my actions meant. Am I giving up [on the relationship]? Am I going to forgive him? After a long back and forth, I ultimately decided that once I walked out that door, it meant I was not going to look back.”
Believing that their relationship will never be the same again after the trust was broken, Vivian said, “I know my personality. Even if I were to forgive him, I would never be able to forget that moment. Our relationship will definitely continue to have problems. I would be filled with a sense of insecurity and become overly suspicious about everything.”
Reflecting on her perspective about love, the 45-year-old singer said, “Perhaps a lot of people will tell you that a man is not suitable for you and that you should not be with him. However, if you fall in love with him, there’s nothing you can do about it. You have to experience love and let yourself fall and fail. That is how you live a life with no regrets. Do not take your life for granted, or hurt yourself or others over anything. Do not ever believe that you will not be able to live if you did not have a certain someone.”
After the interview was broadcast, netizens quickly revisited Vivian’s dating history and tried to pinpoint whom she was referring to. Although Vivian was rumored to have dated popular actors such as Nicky Wu (吳奇隆), Stephen Fung (馮德倫), and Stephen Chow (周星馳), none seemed to fit the bill, as Vivian did not disclose any personal details to identify who the ex-boyfriend was.
