Whitney Hui is Jobless

Former Miss Hong Kong second runner-up Whitney Hui (許亦妮) is down in the dumps. The 26-year-old actress has not filmed a single television drama since last year’s Overachievers <名門暗戰>. Her most notable project to-date was Wilson Chin’s (錢國偉) Lan Kwai Fong 3 <喜愛夜蒲3>, but she was left without jobs due to her diva behavior on film sets.

After receiving significant buzz at the outset of her career due to her beauty and curvaceous figure, Whitney appeared on many popular variety programs for TVB, including Battle of the Senses <五覺大戰> and TV Funny <玩轉三周1/2>. In 2013, she made her official drama debut in Wong Cho Lam’s (王祖藍) popular series Inbound Troubles <老表,你好嘢>.

The young star’s work output noticeably slowed down after she starred in 2014’s Lan Kwai Fong 3, which was also her debut film. There were rumors claiming that Whitney was being a diva on set and did not get along with her coworkers.

When she returned to TVB, it was rumored that she outrageously demanded management to increase her salary to four times the original amount. Upsetting the executives, Whitney was eventually frozen by TVB. She also lost her co-hosting spot to Jinny Ng (吳若希) in the third season of Street Sorcerers <街頭魔法王>.

  1. A great pity. She can act. If this is true though… what a pity.

    1. Well, she can always go the Mandy Lieu route and find a rich dude and get knocked-up……….should be a piece of cake for her to hook up with a rich dude given her hot looks.

  2. Serves her right, she had to own the diva status snd not flaunt it while she still a newbie.

  3. What a shame, she’s one of the new pageant girls that can act and has potential.

  4. She should be humble in the industry. Guess someone’s going to be jobless for a long time. Perhaps it’s good to change profession.

  5. Such a shame, she’s one of the few newbies that’s got the whole package. I prefer her to the other newly promoted actresses.

  6. i like her. she’s pretty and can act. too bad if she really brought herself down like that

  7. One must read between the lines instead of completely buying in to some tabloid writer’s sensational extrapolation about her diva attitude causing her jobs.

The real answer might be found in the last paragraph as it appears she wants to renegotiate her contract for more HK$.

  8. maybe she has no connection,,, she can act and act really good compared to all young and newbie,,,

  9. I believe there is some truth to her diva attitude. Watched her once on that dating game show hosted by Louis Yuen and she came across as arrogant and obnoxious.

    1. Yep, same for Jacqueline Wong, whose big mouth and jawline is not attractive at all. At least, Whitney Hui looks better.

    1. What bad manners? The article did not mention any. Asking for a salary increase is not bad manners.

  10. Serves her right. She can act but never thought she is pretty.

  11. Maybe if she changed her name to
    Whitney HUISTON….

  12. Wow, TVB’s tactic never changed. Ng Wai Kok has also experience this in his young days. He asked for higher salary from TVB after he got popular. TVB agreed, but, freeze him after that.

    1. We all know how shady TVB is and I highly doubt they will ever change.

    2. That’s such as shame if Ng Wai Kwok was ‘frozen’ for that reason. I think he had a great performance in the series ‘The Drive of Life’. It’s such a waste when actors and actresses with talent are not given opportunities.

  13. It’s a pity – Lan Kwai Fong did wonders for Sammy Shum’s career; but seemed to start the downward spiral of Whitney Hui’s one……

Pity, she can act, and she’s quite pretty.
There’s still time if she has an attitude adjustment!
