“Destined to Love You” Cast Shares Filming Experience

Currently filming in Hengdian, the cast of Destined To Love You <偏偏喜歡你> met with the press to discuss share their filming experiences. Joe Chen (陳喬恩) discussed the romantic scenes she has with Jia Nailiang (賈乃亮) and Bosco Wong (黃宗澤),

The cast appeared impeccable in their costumes. Despite the frigid temperatures in Hengdian, the actors had a number of action scenes in the lake and suffered in the cold water for hours before being able to change out of their soaking uniforms. Even when their lips turned purple from the cold, the male cast did not let out a word of complaint.

Nailiang also admitted to having lost significant weight from intense weight training in order to portray this role. He also had to endure real slaps from Joe in a scene where they accidentally kissed. Although Nailiang cried out in pain afterward, Joe did not hold back on her teasing comments, “You didn’t have a lot of color on your face that day; I was helping you!” Although Nailiang had a reddened face for the rest of the day, he complimented Joe for being a great onscreen partner.

Pointing out that many of Joe’s onscreen male partners received a popularity boost after working with her, Nailiang admitted to reducing his pay to film Destined To Love You. Cherishing the opportunity to work with Joe for the first time, Nailiang commented, “Joe gives her co-stars a lot of chances to incorporate their own ideas into filming. A lot of the little ideas in my performance were actually suggested by Joe.”

Known for her warm personality, Joe got along well with both Nailiang and Bosco. There was no awkwardness in the romantic scenes.

  1. Oh, I thought “Destined to Love you” was a sequel to “Fated to love you”. Regardless, I’m really looking forward to this drama… I’m definitely a fan of Joe Chen’s acting style

  2. Based on the pictures, Joe Chen looks plain and not that pretty, and she’s too small!

    1. There is more to anyone than looks. I think Joe looks sweet and has a lot of onscreen charisma which is more important than just looking pretty. At least she is natural rather than those actresses who are considered pretty but have a face full of plastic.

    2. based on the pictures, Joe Chen looks way better than the little guy in blue uniform. Why is it that females are alway dissed (usually by females) for not being ‘pretty’ enough while the ugly guys are accepted?

  3. those are the ugliest looking uniforms i’ve ever seen in my life

    1. Sad how they can get military uniform looks so bad, so far only bosco looks good >_> but that is not enough to redeem the rest of the cast of the main chick

  4. The drama series is based around the 1910’s, so its not exactly modern era. Therefore the uniforms are a bit crappy! Joe Chen portrays an instructor in Shanghai for a Military Academy and the two lead male actors Bosco Wong and Jia Nailiang are also instructors.

I wonder if the drama is any good?!

    1. Benz Hui is the principal
      Joe Chen is an instructor
Shaun Tam is a stern instructor
Male leads Jia Nailiang and Bosco are not instructors, they’re students

      The synopsis:
Joe Chen; a cheerful and bright girl stole the identity of Military Instructor Zheng Shuang who was presumed dead in an accident to make money for her sick mother. She met Jia Nailiang, the arrogant but righteous happy go lucky fiance of Zheng Shuang’s character, and they have a bickering relationship. She also met Bosco; the calm and quiet smart student who silently fall for her. This creates a love triangle. Suddenly Zheng Shuang comes back to reclaim her identity(and fiance) but she ends up helping Joe and become friends with her.

      ***SPOILER***

Joe Chen ends up with Jia Nailiang

      1. This sound so original…. Not >_> and no need to guess, follow kdrama (where good guy don’t get the girl and mean guy do)+ mainland don’t pick hk actor as main, jia nailiang is going to get the girl. Not going to even bother

      2. It does sound typical of Tonghua idol drama style. Most of her work has a clear cut OTP and following Mr. Darcy formula(except for one). After watching the trailer I don’t feel as interested anymore because of a personal reason but I may or may not change my mind if new trailer after they finish filming(in Jan) come out.

I dislike the bright colors of the clothes, although some of the men carry it well for eye candy purpose.

I dislike their dubbing choices too, especially Joe Chen’s.

I think I left the idol world too long, I dislike some of the OTT acting from certain main cast(s). However Joe Chen is cute, I like her. Bosco is very handsome and clean-cut with this not too dark skin tone.

  5. I watched the preview…. I was about to say “SKIP” until Joe Chen’s segment came…and the drama turned into comedy. I’m gonna give this a try since having Joe Chen in a drama is pretty promising to me
