“Triumph in the Skies 2” Peaks at 34 Ratings Points in Its First Week

In comparison to the beginning months of the year in which TVB received massive criticism and low ratings for their dramas, the station managed to boost viewership with the summer line up. The ratings for Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II> were strong in its first week of broadcast, peaking at 34 points when Francis Ng (吳鎮宇) made his official appearance as a pilot again. The week’s overall ratings were 31 points, drawing in over 1.99 million viewers.

Despite Myolie Wu’s (胡杏兒) absence in the drama until episode 5, it looked like not many people were anticipating her return because the ratings plummeted to 27 points when she first appeared in the first half of the fifth episode. Perhaps it was not entirely Myolie that caused the drop, but viewers found it boring due to the fact that the scene showed the maintenance crew and lacked romance and action.

Raymond Wong  (黃浩然) and Priscilla Wong’s (黃翠如) Karma Rider <師父,明白了> lagged behind the ratings of Triumph in the Skies 2. With its relatively fresh cast and interesting storyline, it managed to draw in an average of 25 ratings points and peaked at 28 points. In contrast to Triumph in the Skies 2’s star-studded cast and heavy promotion, the underrated Karma Rider is still in the shadows.

Another popular show is Voice of Stars <星夢傳奇> in which TVB artists are invited to compete in the singing competition. Interestingly, this show brought attention to many unrecognized actors such as Frederick Cheng (鄭俊弘) and this week’s rating even increased a total of 4 points, pushing it to a high of 25 points during the episode where Becky Lee (李璧琦) and Oscar Leung (梁烈唯) was eliminated from the competition.

  1. Don’t count the chickens before they hatch. The initial episode may have been good but if the story drags on or loses focus, astute viewers will be turned off and the ratings will drop like the stock market.

  2. Thanks for implying myolie is ratings poison. Episode 6 average at 32, peaking at 34. Man, i bet myolie killed the ratings.

    1. lol, I don’t think the article was implying that. I think the ratings probably went down because it’s a Friday and don’t people usually go out?

  3. If you count the mytv views, the average for the first episode of Triumph 2 is actually 38 points. I don’t know why they don’t generally add mytv views to all their ratings?

    1. I agree. Just because people don’t watch it live, it doesn’t mean they don’t watch it at all. Some people just can’t watch it during the time when it’s airing so they watch it on mytv at a later time.

  4. Hmm, I didn’t know the ratings had gone down to 27 points. The ratings are very unpredictable these days, TITS2 is doing well in the first week, likely due to it being a grand production, sequel to a beloved show/nostalgia and promotional hype but whether it can maintain high ratings (and the 30s is not that high) remains to be seen.

  5. Wow, I didn’t know that one can get bored from watching TITs.
