Albert Yeung’s (楊受成) Emperor Group, one of Hong Kong’s largest business conglomerates, held its 70th anniversary celebration in Wan Chai on Friday, September 14. Over a hundred celebrities attended the fashionable and star-studded event, which was held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Emperor Group was originally a small watch shop owned by Albert Yeung’s father, Yeung Shing (楊成). Established in 1942, the watch shop was then called Shing On Kee Watch Shop. Albert Yeung opened his own store in Kowloon in 1964, using the money that his father gave him. In a few years, Albert Yeung’s store expanded into a jewelry business, and the group grew to a large business conglomerate within 20 years. Currently, the Emperor Group has over 500 subsidiaries and over 7,000 employees. Its businesses are found in Hong Kong, Macau, mainland China, Thailand, and Indonesia.
At the 70th anniversary banquet, Albert Yeung took the stage to thank all of his employees and customers, “Thank you to all my staff for fighting the war alongside with me all these years. Thanks to them, I finally understand that talent is more important than wealth. In the future, I will engage more in philanthropic organizations to give back to society, to help those who needed to be help. This is my biggest wish.”
A Star-Studded Gala
Emperor Group’s anniversary celebration was one of the most star-studded events held in Hong Kong of the year. Among the stars that turned out at the 200-table banquet were Jackie Chan (成龍), Donnie Yen (甄子丹), Sammo Hung (洪金寶) and his son Timmy Hung (洪天明), Paula Tsui (徐小鳳), Carina Lau (劉嘉玲), Daniel Wu (吳彥祖), Nick Cheung (張家輝), Mainland Chinese artists Ge You (葛优) and Fan Bingbing (范冰冰), Kara Hui (惠英紅), Lynn Hung (熊黛林), and Chapman To (杜汶澤).

Estate tycoon, Lee Shau Kee (李兆基), his son, Martin Lee (李家誠), and his son’s wife, Cathy Chui (徐子淇), were invited. Li Ka Shing (李嘉誠), the world’s wealthiest person of Asian descent, came to the event as early as six in the evening, but due to his busy schedule, he only stayed for 10 minutes. Other business tycoons, such as Tsang Hin Chi (曾憲梓), TVB and Shaw Brother’s Mona Fong (方逸華), and Kenneth (霍啟剛) and Eric Fok (霍啟山), Thomas Wu (胡文新), came individually to congratulate Albert.
“Casino King” Stanley Ho (何鴻燊) came with his fourth wife, Angela Leong (梁安琪), and their son, Arnaldo Ho (何猷亨). Stanley Ho’s tenth daughter from his third wife, Laurinda Ho (何超蓮), arrived separately.
Taiwanese music sensation, Leehom Wang (王力宏), was also in attendance at the event. Leehom is currently holding a three-day concert in the Hong Kong Coliseum for the Hong Kong leg of his Music-Man II world tour. After conversing with Albert and other guests for 15 minutes, Leehom quickly left the party to prepare for his concert that night. Leehom’s surprise appearance delighted Albert, who excitedly told the press, “He’s holding a concert tonight, but he still took some time off to visit me! I am very thankful!”
Carina Lau Stands By Tony Leung
With anti-Japanese sentiment growing stronger in China due to the Diaoyu islands disputes between China and Japan, Tony Leung (梁朝偉) was bashed for being a traitor by many Chinese netizens after news slipped that he recently began working on new Japanese film, 1905, with director Kiyoshi Kurosawa.
In regards to the criticism, Tony’s wife, Carina, sighed, “He was already signed on to film the movie in 2009, but they could not get the filming schedule together until now. I hope that everyone will use their wisdom to solve the problem. I want to urge everyone to handle the situation calmly and intellectually. Although sovereignty needs to be fought toughly, people still need to love each other and treat each other harmoniously.”
Carina, who is currently filming Detective Dee: The Prequel <狄仁傑前傳> in mainland China, was asked if anti-Japanese sentiment is currently at its highest tension in mainland China. She responded, “I’ve been filming in Hengdian. I’ve traveled back in time to the Tang dynasty, so I do not know.”
Nicholas Tse Says Cecilia Cheung is Fit
Nicholas Tse and his ex-wife, Cecilia Cheung (張栢芝) were recently photographed spending time together with their son, Lucas, at a swimming venue earlier this week. Nicholas said, “We had fun. The kids are our first priority. I will always visit my sons when I have the time.”
Reporters pointed out that Cecilia’s body shape was not as fit as before, and her belly flab was very noticeable. Nicholas explained, “She had two kids. She’s not 18 or 19 years old anymore. It’s not worthy to discuss.”
