Kate Tsui’s (徐子珊) romance with eye doctor, Marvin Tse (謝偉業), is over. The duo allegedly broke up in August after being together for only six months. Face Magazine reported that the breakup may be due to 41-year-old Marvin’s flirtatious behavior towards other woman, dashing 33-year-old Kate’s marriage dreams.
In May, the paparazzi photographed Marvin Tse spending three nights at Kate’s house, exposing the couple’s relationship for the first time. Marvin was extremely considerate towards Kate while they were dating, even running out late at night to buy roasted meats for her to savor after she returned home from work.
With multiple eye clinics in the Central and Mongkok districts, Marvin Tse has established a reputation in the field of orthopedic eye surgery. Due to Marvin’s wealth and his refined gentleman demeanor, he remained as a “ladies magnet” even while dating Kate.
An inside source revealed, “Kate has been unhappy recently. At first, she thought that she can trust the eye doctor and felt that he was a good catch for marriage. But he turned out to be a flirtatious player. Breaking up was the only option for Kate.”
Kate Offends Charles Chan?
Kate’s former relationship with Marvin Tse allegedly cost her TVB career. Once rumored with TVB majority shareholder, Charles Chan (陳國強), Kate’s priority in love led to the company to promote other lead actresses instead. Last year, Kate starred in five dramas, but she only leads in Highs and Lows and guest stars in Season of Love <戀愛季節> and A Great Way to Care 2 <仁心解碼 II>.
“The worst thing is that while dating the eye doctor, Kate gave Charles Chan the impression that she did not care about work. He said that if she only cared about dating, then Kate will not be involved in the second-half of this year’s TVB dramas! Kate felt that she ‘missed the boat’ in both instances. Marvin and Kate Respond to Breakup Rumors
On September 14, Marvin departed for his golf vacation in Southeast Asia. It was understood that he will not be traveling alone and will likely be accompanied by another woman. When asked about his breakup rumors with Kate, Marvin refused to respond.
Asked by the media regarding the status of her relationship with Marvin, Kate replied, “We have always been regular friends.When asked if she felt that Marvin had toyed with her heart after dating for only six months, Kate maintained, “We have always been friends; we did not date!” Yet, in May, Kate had stated that Marvin was a friend that she was in the midst of getting to know. The change in Kate’s current response may indicate that the couple had separated.
Kate also denied that TVB had “frozen” her this year. “TVB treats me very well. I recently completed a film with Raymond Lam (林峯) in mainland China. I will be flying to various locations for stage performances later. I was invited to film a mainland Chinese drama, but had to decline due to schedule conflicts. I should be filming another drama in December.”
Kate’s Tragic Character Stands Out in “Highs and Lows”

Despite Kate’s decreased drama output and subsequent rumors that TVB had “frozen” her career, her “Drug Queen” character in Highs and Lows stands out from a sea of upright cops. In the drama, Kate’s father is a drug criminal. She became addicted to drugs when she was forced to take an injection. Raymond Lam used Kate’s drug addiction to his advantage while employing her as an informer for the Hong Kong Police’s anti-narcotics investigation.
While investigating a narcotics case, Operation Wing Chief Inspector, Ben Wong (黃智賢) discovered that Kate had fallen unconscious after a drug overdose. Taking advantage of the situation, Ben was tempted and raped Kate.
The tragic fate of Kate’s character continues. Her younger brother (Bryant Mak 麥子樂) dies after being brutally beaten.
With her lost love and family, Kate’s character is filled with bitterness. Rising in ranks in the drug trafficking trade, Kate’s “Drug Queen” finally has a face-off with the man that she loved the most, Raymond Lam.
Kate’s role in Highs and Lows is undoubtedly a great challenge to portray, testing her resourcefulness to show the character’s vulnerability and strength given the repeated blows in her life.

Well, if you read the article, you’ll know that you will continue to see her on TVB since she has a series airing right now, Seasons of Love will most likely be shown in Feb, and she’ll be filming a new series in December.
I know but I do tend to skip her part when her character starts to play in all other recents and future tvb series hopefully by the time her next series airs in Dec it’ll be the last one lol..
Then just do that, she won’t use a gun to your head to force you. Losing only you won’t be a big impact to her

I’m not a fan of Kate’s acting but her character in Highs and Lows seems interested.
I wish her the best of luck in finding a life partner. She said before that she doesn’t want to date anyone in the entertainment circle… instead it seems like she likes older men who are successful in their career… I think she’s got the right idea.

If you’re really such a great actor, then at least make the most normal, most mundane characters seem interesting. Less of the disabled/sick/tragic roles.

Interesting article… Kate is right to make this decision with the eye doctor friend of hers. I wish her luck finding another Mr. Right. Her character Pat in Highs and Lows is also very… fresh. It’s new for TVB to make new and fresh characters like this. I have a feeling she may get TVB Queen from other articles i’ve read which talks about her and Tavia.

Am liking the show so far. The part that still cracks me up when i think about it is the scene where
Mc jin and kate r waiting for ben to come back while with their goods of underwear and jin takes the leopard print undies and puts it onto himself and kate says “see, its fits him”..
I like the part where MC Jin pretends to eat out of the bra, saying the rice goes in one cup and the veggies/meat in the other cup. I thought that was funny.
Ay ay, looks like I am one of the few here that support her acting lol, her Caracter in HAL really looks interesting, hope she get to show the best of herself in this series, so she can fight for the queen title towards TY.
I watch a bit of episode 1 of HAL yesterday. Kate did do well in that episode. But, the hard part has not come yet. I will wait to see how she will do after she become drug queen. Kate has one problem when she has to act a cool character. She will become blank and expressionless and speak like a robot. I hope she won’t do that here. I also hope she does well in this role. I like her too.
I think she did well in first 3 eps. Natural move of the mouth than the botox mouths.
