Miss Hong Kong 2011: Whitney Hui Gains Confidence After Winning Award
Although 2011 Miss Hong Kong contestant #3, Whitney Hui (許亦妮), was a “scandal queen” and plagued by negative rumors, she remained appealing to viewers. At yesterday’s event, Whitney was voted by the audience to win the “Bright Eye-Catching Beauty” Award. Although this award was not very prestigious, it boosted Whitney’s confidence and made her feel that the contestants were no longer strong rivals!
The fourteen contestants of the 2011 Miss Hong Kong Contest appeared in Tseung Kwan O for yesterday’s exhibition clips of the contestants’ excursion to Taiwan earlier. Dozens of audience members, as well as TVB artists, Lai Lok Yi (黎諾懿), Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪), and Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) voted to select the winner for the “Bright Eye-Catching Beauty” award. Lai Lok Yi and the others voted for #5 Rebecca Zhu (朱晨麗), #2 Iris Kwan (關曉琳), and #7 Sandy Wu (胡中慧), however #3 Whitney Hui ended up winning the award.
At the event, the five contestants with the highest online popularity were revealed, which included contestant #1 Janey Yan (甄敏婷), #3 Whitney Hui, #5 Rebecca Zhu, #7 Sandy Wu, and #12 Gemma Choi (蔡慧欣).
Receiving an award for the first time, Whitney Hui felt very happy. “Many thanks to the audience for their support!” (Your confidence has increased?) “My confidence has always been there.”(Your numerous romantic rumors did not matter to you?) “I already clarified that the rumors were false.” (Do you have confidence to be placed in the top three?) “That will depend upon the judges.” (Were you disappointed that the three male artists here today did not vote for you?) “No, whoever they selected were good quality.”
When asked who Whitney considered to be her biggest rival, she replied, “I did not consider them as rivals. My biggest rival would be myself.” When asked whether her confidence was overflowing, Whitney said, “No, but it’s necessary to have confidence in myself.” Whitney indicated that she was happy for Clayton Li (李晉強) in winning the 2011 Mr. Hong Kong Contest and admitted that he matched her preferences.
Contestant #5, Rebecca Zhu, received a vote from “Dancing King” Lai Lok Yi. Although she did not win the “Bright Eye-Catching Beauty” Award, Rebecca said she was not disappointed. She praised the other contestants’ qualifications and noted that everyone worked hard. Lai Lok Yi praised Rebecca’s beauty with light make-up. Coupled with her temperament, Rebecca gave Lai Lok Yi the feeling that she was a fairy.

The media mentioned several times that Rebecca Zhu resembles Fala Chen. I find that Rebecca looks like a very young Kenix Kwok (when she competed in Miss Hong Kong) instead. Their face shapes and smile are quite similar.
I think Kenix looked way better when she was in the pageant than her. I don’t see any cuteness or prettiness in this Rebecca; or any of them at all that is in this pageant at the moment.

The contestants this year are definately an improvement from previous years. Especially 2009 when there was only one pretty girl (Sandy Lau, 2009 winner)
I think Rebecca looks like a mix of Fala Chen and taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai.
She is my pick for this year’s winner.
I also like Whitney and Janey. They are my top 3.
