Rebecca Zhu Leads New Cop Drama

With a steady exodus of artistes who have quit TVB’s stifling environment, artistes who have been “frozen” like Rebecca Zhu (朱晨麗) and Ali Lee (李佳芯) have higher hopes of making their onscreen returns!

A serious dearth of artistes to cast remains a pressing issue for the station, which has seen another wave of actors including Candice Chiu (趙希洛), Cecca Xu (許子萱), Benny Chan (陳國峰), Stephen Wong (黃祥興) and long-serving “green leaf” actors Ram Chiang (蔣志光) and Chun Wong (秦煌) all bidding their goodbyes. With the pressing need for familiar faces to lead a slew of co-productions with Tencent’s video arm, and considering the higher rates of actors from external agencies, the station is said to be unfreezing Rebecca for the role of a charismatic female cop in upcoming heavyweight police drama Anti-crime Heroes (lit. translation) <反黑英雄>!

Idle For Over A Year

Following rampant talk of discord with co-stars Katy Kung (龔嘉欣) and Tony Hung (洪永城) on set, the Miss Hong Kong 2011 winner was frozen by management and went without filming work for over a year after she was last seen in 2020’s The Dripping Sauce <大醬園> and 2022’s The Beauty of War <美麗戰場>.

It is known that original lead actress, Jacky Cai (蔡潔) had to turn down the drama due to conflicting schedules with another headline drama Forensic Heroes VI <法證VI> which starts filming in October, thus opening up an opportunity for Rebecca. The production unit made a deliberate effort to tweak the script to suit Rebecca, who will be paired with Joel Chan’s (陳山聰) cop character, as schooltime lovers who meet again in adulthood.

Exuding feminine charms amid powerful displays of strength, Rebecca’s role will be interesting to watch along with actress Elaine Yiu (姚子羚) who plays mafia boss lady for the first time.

A close friend of Joel, Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪) will be portraying chief villain for the first time alongside Hugo Wong (黃子桓) and Mat Yeung (楊明).

Ashley Chu Does Not Renew Contract, Will Wrap With “Big Biz Duel”

Meanwhile, actress Ashley Chu (朱智賢), who was embroiled in infamy after being caught cheating with actor Jackson Lai (黎振燁), is also said to be leaving TVB to seek “a greater challenge”.

The 37-year-old, who impressed HK viewers with her role in Narcotics Heroes <破毒強人> where she plays a married couple with Ram Chiang, revealed that she decided not to renew her contract with TVB after 10 years.

“I’ve always been in a secure environment, it’s time to venture out and challenge myself,” she said. Currently filming the entrepreneurship-themed Big Biz Duel <企業強人> which is scheduled to wrap by mid-December, Ashley shared that she has numerous scenes opposite leads Kelly Cheung (張曦雯) and Shaun Tam (譚俊彥), and will also tag along with the crew and cast for more outtake scenes in China at a later timing. “Going to TVB everyday was like going to school, I knew nothing from the start, very happy to have learnt a lot (at TVB) and hope that these can come in useful in the future!”

  1. First time an actress openly speaks out about s harrasment on set, TVB responds by freezing her, thus setting a example for other female actresses from now on to keep being silent. Not just being cheap with their actors pay, they also lag well behind other countries on dealing with these concerning issues.
