Eric Tsang on the Hitches During the 2025 TVB Anniversary Gala
The TVB Anniversary Gala was held on November 19. Amid the glitz and glamour of the event was a parade of celebrities on the red carpet. Dressed in beautiful gowns and sharp suits, TVB stars stunned at this year’s gala. As the company’s general manager, Eric Tsang (曾志偉) chatted with reporters regarding TVB’s successes this year and the goals and trajectory for next.
The event was not all smooth sailing and had its own hiccups. Leading up to the event, Eric teased there would be a mystery guest at this year’s celebration. Many speculated who the mysterious guest, including Jacky Cheung (張學友) and Alan Tam (譚詠麟). When no actual guest appeared, Eric clarified the mystery guest was not a real person after all. All along, the guest teased in the promo trailer was intended to an AI robot.
Another hitch came during the show’s drawing of a grand prize. Initially, a blue ball, which was believed to have belonged to Shaun Tam (譚俊彥), was drawn as the winner. However, the draw suddenly restarted, with the grand prize going to fellow actress Alice Chan (陳煒). The confusion and unexpected double drawing ignited discussions online, with netizens accusing the results of being rigged and unfair.
Eric explained that the original plan was to draw the prize twice, but it was later changed to just one draw due to time constraints. Because of communication mix-up backstage, the team proceeded with two draws anyway. With the first result already revealed, the only option was to continue. Eric shrugged it off and expressed, “This world doesn’t always follow your perfect script. You plan it one way, but the result might not match. The most important thing is that everyone’s happy!”
On reports alleging that he will be leaving TVB once his contract ends this month, Eric laughed off the rumors, clarifying that he has no plans to leave, “Of course I’m continuing! Why wouldn’t I? I’m still here! As long as they haven’t fired me yet, I’m still in this seat [as general manager].”
