“Come Home Love: Lo and Behold” Airs Finale After Nine Years

After accompanying Hong Kong viewers through countless evenings, TVB’s long-running sitcom Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛·回家之開心速遞> finally aired its 2,868th and final episode on August 7, bringing its remarkable nine-year run to a close as Hong Kong television’s longest-running program.

When “Missy” actress Mandy Lam (林淑敏) was interviewed about her character’s wedding back in 2021, she had already teased that the eventual finale would be far more than just a typical “BBQ ending.” True to her word, the production team pulled out all the stops, filling the finale with surprises, heartwarming moments and nostalgic touches to give the beloved sitcom a fitting farewell.

Hung Family Stays as One

At the beginning of the finale, the usually lively Hung household faces the possibility of being scattered as family members contemplate going their separate ways. Fortunately, Hung Sheung-sin (played by Joyce Tang 滕麗名) comes up with a plan. She persuades her father, Hung Shu-kan (Lau Dan 劉丹), to pretend to be involved in a household accident for the filming of a commercial.

The elaborate ruse works, reminding everyone of the importance of family. In the end, the entire Hung family decides to remain together in Hong Kong for a warm, reassuring storyline wrap.

Jinny Ng Makes Surprise Cameo

Apart from delivering a family reunion, the finale also cleverly incorporated a symbolic handover to TVB’s next sitcom. As the Hung family celebrates together at a Chinese restaurant, Jinny Ng (吳若希) and Lee Yan-tung (李茵彤), who will play mother and daughter in the upcoming Come Home Love: Like Mother, Like Daughter <愛·回家之三代同糖>, make a surprise appearance.

They take a mobile phone from Kam Shing-on (Kalok Chow 周嘉洛) and enthusiastically help the Hung family take a group photo. Though a small gesture, the scene carries a clear sense of “passing the torch”, symbolizing the continuation of the laughter and warmth that Come Home Love has brought audiences over the years.

Lung and Hung Families Welcome a New Generation

Even in the finale, longtime rivals “Missy” and Hung Sheung-sin refuse to stop competing. Coincidentally, both women schedule the openings of their new companies for the same day and time, with each inviting the popular “Big Four” veterans to perform.

When a water pipe suddenly bursts outside Missy’s new company, Lik Lin Group, the quick-thinking Sheung-sin temporarily puts their rivalry aside. She recreates a Lik Lin Group set inside Sheung Sin Film Production, allowing everyone to gather together for the celebration.

The biggest piece of good news of the night then arrives during the opening ceremony, when Sung Shui-fai (Jack Hui 許家傑) announces in front of everyone that “Ah Lin is pregnant!”

Together with the previously announced pregnancy of Hung Yeuk-shui (Koni Lui 呂慧儀), both the Hung and Lung families now have double reason to celebrate, paving the way for a truly happy ending with three generations living together.

The “Big Four” Rap Their Farewell as Uncle Kan Says: “Until We Meet Again”

The finale’s emotional climax comes courtesy of the hugely popular “Big Four”, with the veteran actors delivering a playful rap expressing their gratitude after nine years on air.

Hung Shu-kan raps, “They say a day as husband and wife creates a hundred days of affection. You’ve watched us for nearly ten years, and for that we are truly grateful.” Lung Gam-wai, played by Law Lok-lam (羅樂林), reflects on how viewers have grown up alongside the show. “Back when you first watched us, you were still a kid. You grew up with us and became a working adult.”

Lung Gam-kai, played by Chung Chi-kwong (鍾志光), who took the place of Peter Lai’s (黎彼得) Ma Pau, continues, “Marriage and having children should bring plenty of laughter. Thank you, thank you — we hope you’ve gained something from watching us.”

Tam To-tak, played by Chan Wing-chun (陳榮峻), then calls on everyone to join in, “Pass the mic around — everyone come and rap along!” Actors including Amy Fan (樊奕敏), Lee Wai-kin (李偉健) and Andrew Chan (陳浚霆) subsequently appear one after another, showing the genuine closeness the cast has developed over the years — very much like a real family.

Finally, family patriarch Hung Tree Gun delivers the program’s last farewell directly to the camera, “Remember us. Remember us. Until we meet again.” With those words, the sitcom closes the curtain on nine years of laughter, companionship and memories, leaving viewers with one of its most touching moments yet.
