Ruco Chan and Linda Chung’s Ending in “Brother’s Keeper 2” Overshadows Main Cast

Even Grace Chan’s (陳凱琳) skinny dipping couldn’t take the limelight from Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣).

TVB’s latest drama Brother’s Keeper 2 <巨輪II>, sequel to the original 2013 drama, sees Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) and Kristal Tin (田蕊妮) return as Lo Wai-son and Yiu Man-ying, respectively, as they race against time in modern-day Hong Kong and Macau. The sequel also stars new cast members Hugo Ng (吳岱融) and Grace Chan, who plays Edwin’s love interest. Original cast members Ruco Chan and Linda Chung return in the sequel as only supporting stars, appearing in only the first five episodes.

Episode five, which aired last Friday, mainly centered on Sam (Ruco Chan) and his reunion with ex-girlfriend Rachel (Linda Chung), who was left crippled after a terrible car accident. The couple overcome their obstacles and finally get together, marrying in the final moments of episode five.

The episode marks the official end of Sam and Rachel’s tumultuous love story, which crossed twenty years. It also marks the last appearances by Ruco and Linda in the sequel.

Viewers rated episode five positively. Fans were happy to see Sam and Rachel finally with a happy ending, as their relationship ended with regret in the prequel. Many netizens said episode five felt like a finale for the series.

Ruco and Linda’s screen time, albeit brief, took the limelight from the main cast. Their characters’ reunion and subsequent marriage became the main topic of discussion amongst online forums. Even Grace’s first appearance in episode five, which was of her skinny dipping in a pool, failed to garner the viewers’ interest.

Many fans are upset that they won’t be seeing Sam and Rachel again in the series. Noting Ruco and Linda’s impact in episode five, a netizen joked, “Brother’s Keeper 2 ended with only five episodes. What a classic.” Another said, “I have no interest in watching Brother’s Keeper 3 on Monday.”

  1. Well i am glad Sam and Rachel get happy ending. I have seen the sequel and will not. Interesting Grace went skinny dipping? haha

  2. I haven’t started watching yet but can any1 tell me the age of leads in the drama? It sound like a continuation of where it ended in BK1. Which means they r in their 50s.

Or did TVB missed the age factor and made them in their 30s? Did they scrap the last last episode of BK1?

    1. @1nit TVB basically ignored BK1’s timeline and just went for content and amped up the drama factor.

I wished, i truly wished Sam walks away from Rachel for good. This is not a happy ending, not after how she behaved in BK1. He deserved someone better and away from this destructive woman.

Of course her being crippled kinda redeemed her but nope, I feel Sam should fall for someone else.

      1. @funnlim I feel the same as you. Rachel’s character in BK1 is not someone who deserves as great a guy like Sam.

In any case, the sweet and demure Linda Chung is not at all compatible with a hot and macho Ruco.

      2. @funnlim

Sound like a crap drama already.

They should keep to the story and time line. If not just do a new drama about almond cake n change every1’s name.

I was having more hope for tvb after a couple of dramas that i thought was an improvement compare to recent years production. But after this 1, i am very disappointed again.

      3. @1nit watch this only when you want to see loud vs louder vs loudest. Noise pollution galore from Kristal, Hugo, Lau Kong and Grace with her cutesy whiny nasally voice trying to act cute in every scene.

      4. @funnlim I mean yeah, I found Rachel to be quite frustrating, after all Sam has been through, it was like she never bothered to understand or cared for him.

TVB should’ve just explained Rachel and Sam disappearance briefly (which they always did before whenever a cast member never came back to film). Now you just set them up and give them closure in 5-6 episodes.

Did we really need such a closure for both of them like that?

Easier to say Sam is successful elsewhere and didn’t come back, Rachel married off elsewhere, episode 1, done.

      5. @lileric TVB did this to draw viewers. I bet this scene alone expanded the series’ viewership many folds! It’s a business friend!! But I am glad they did bc Ruco and Linda did a fabulous job in bringing out the true feelings of a couple intensely in love! Award worthy performance. Too bad they were only guests in this series!

  3. Have stop watching after Episode 5 which is also the ending of BK1. The following episodes shall have all the ‘sound effect’ in the series. Have stop watching after BK1 ended.

  4. True…have to stop after Episode 5. No more Ruco appearance whom suppose to be a main role end up became a guest star. No meaning to watch others esp. Edwin Siu & Grace paired up. Grace acting very lousy…not natural. Story very boring. Kristal TIn keeps on shouting & non stop scolding people. Very boring…..

  5. Episode 5 is the finale….

Can’t really be bother with the rest of the series as the storyline is crap…

  6. It’s indeed weird to watch episode 6 it literally looks like a new spinoff rather than BK2 …

  7. Just began with episode 3. Already like the role from Hugo Ng and Matt Yeung. It looks like Ruco have 5 episodes and Linda only 2. To bad:(. Then again. The trailers also let us see that Louis Yuen will leave the serie soon. I’m not a fan of Kristal or Edwin. And i really don’t like the Missy HK!! Soo. Hopeley Hugo and Matt will have more screentime. And the one who played the wife (never know her real name). She js good. Love her playing in war of beauty and burning flame.

  8. Omg, I am probably the only one that thinks of Linda Chung’s character as the most annoying and worst role ever. I was so hoping and wondering why did TVB have to pair the leads together b/c Linda C’s character in Part 1 was just so very annoying so I don’t u/s what’s up w/a sequel when the prequel was already so bad to begin with. TVB is just so desperate right now, but now even bad series gets sequel that’s what you don’t get.
