Scriptwriter Assures Yang Yang is Best Choice for “A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality”

Yang Yang’s (楊洋) stiff acting was criticized in this summer’s Fireworks of My Heart <我的人間煙火>. The drama received an abysmal rating of 3.2 on Douban. Fans hope that Yang Yang’s next drama will be a greater success and alleviate some of the criticism. Many are closely watching the filming development of A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality <凡人修仙傳>.

Adapted from a popular historical novel, the drama centers around Han Li (Yang Yang), a poor villager who eventually finds his road to immortality. The drama was originally highly anticipated, but recent rumors claimed the script is undergoing major changes. Fans worried if Yang Yang’s screen time may be affected or minimized.

Attempting to shut down speculations, scriptwriter Wang Yuren (王裕仁) denied the rumors and stressed that Yang Yang will be in 90 percent of the drama’s screen time and stated the actor is the best choice for the lead role. Wang Yuren also explained that there will be normal changes necessary in the drama adaptation including logically-developed characters, but this does not necessarily mean more screen time will be added for other characters and take away the focus from Yang Yang.

  1. The rating for Fireworks of my heart is much lower then expected. I though his star power would have prop it higher…this drama is very enjoyable for me thus I dropped it.
I really dont have much excitement over his next project. Xiao Zhan would be a better lead then Yang Yang..

  2. I really wish YY would invest in improving his acting because I do think he’s a very good looking person. He has enough money to hire a personal acting coach if he doesn’t want to take a public class. Even when he plays calm, stoic characters, he’s not very good. His emotional scenes in the Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms film was basically child’s play compared to Mark Chao in the drama. Even Lin Ziye, the little boy from the back hill in My Journey To You is a better actor than him, and he’s only 12.

    1. Wuuuut he was in Ten Miles of Peach Blossom? Dang, he must’ve been really lacking if I didn’t even notice his existence in there hahahaha.

In any case, maybe the director in this one will beat some acting into him.

      1. He was Ye Hua / Mo Yuan in the Movie with Liu Yifei… you might remember they choreographed a modern street dance together to promote the movie… Both in sweatshirts. That might ring a bell. Movie was so boring…I did not finish it.

      2. @Hohliu oh yeaaaa, they made it into a movie – wow it’s so forgettable I literally forgot LOL. They couldn’t have chosen the most perfect pair (to me anyways.) Both lacking acting skills and super bland hahahaha. Maybe folks think LYF redeemed herself, but she hasn’t to me.

      3. Not for me too… Liu Yifei’s acting, even now is rather flat. It does not touch any chord for me..
