Will “Slow Boat Home” Save TVB Ratings?
With both the ratings of Bullet Brain (神探高倫布) and Beauty At War (金枝慾孽貳) in the sewers, TVB is hoping to make a comeback with their new summer romance drama, Slow Boat Home <情越海岸線>.
Viewers complained that Bullet Brain’s plot has been messy and illogical while Beauty At War was simply too difficult to follow. Although both dramas boast strong casts, most of whom are TVB award winners, the two series failed to capture the interest of the audience.
Scheduled to air on May 13 and replace Bullet Brain’s time slot, Slow Boat Home may offer audiences a refreshing change. The series stars Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), Raymond Wong (黃浩然), Aimee Chan (陳茵媺), and Selena Li (李詩韻). Instead of plotting schemes and melodrama, Slow Boat Home will feature a lighter storyline, revolving around love, family and dreams.
The majority of the series will be set in Cheung Chau, and features beach resorts and beautiful ocean scenery – emitting a completely different feel compared to the dark and tragic vibes from Bullet Brain and Beauty At War. Raymond’s outlandish image and long wig may even cause an eruption of giggles among viewers.
Raymond will play the Cheung Chau born Cheung Bo Sang, who is a dreamer. Helping his father (Elliot Ngok 岳華) manage his seafood restaurant, Raymond spends his free time with television director and best friend, Kate Cheng (Aimee Chan). Supporting each other through various hardships, the friends fall in love and help each other find their dreams.
On the other hand, Heidi Kwok (Selena Li) is an overly ambitious businesswoman who gives up her high-profile career and goes back to Cheung Chau to live with her mother (Susan Tse 謝雪心) with the summerhouse. Heidi has an ulterior motive – she is actually partnering with an outsider in developing a brand new villa on the island. Heidi attempts to destroy the relationship between Bo Sang and Kate. Heidi’s first love, Ching Lai Wing (Ruco Chan 陳展鵬), is highly disappointed in her ruthless tactics to achieve her goals.
