Benny Chan Releases New EP, “I Love U”
After the birth of his daughter Elizabeth Chan (陳雅薷) in December 2011, Hong Kong actor and singer Benny Chan (陳浩民) took a brief one-year hiatus to care for his family. In honor of his family, Benny ended his hiatus with the release of the Mandarin-language EP I Love U <我愛你> on June 24, 2013.
I Love U, which consists of only three tracks, is described to be a gift from Benny to his family and fans. The first track, the title song “I Love U”, is a pop rock-inspired ballad that teaches listeners to cherish life and learn what it means to love happiness. The second track, “Thankful” <感謝>, reflects Benny’s gratitude to the loved ones in his life. The EP ends in a bittersweet note with the last track “Romantic Movie Song” <電影情歌>, a ballad about living alone and losing a loved one.
The former TVB actor expressed that music is the only outlet that allows himself to freely express his thoughts on life. Through his music, Benny hopes to “bring the sun to everyone’s eyes every day, to cherish one’s original life, and to learn how to love with life.”
Benny said, “Music is emotional. It is the most straightforward and purest way to touch the heart.”
MV Leaked Before Release
Benny and his record label, Avex Taiwan, was shocked to discover the music video for “I Love U” circulating in mainland Chinese streaming sites and YouTube last week. Avex stated that the copy was leaked to the public even before the production crew could see the final product themselves. The music video was filmed in Taiwan in early June.
Benny said, “I hope netizens will respect copyright. The producers and distributors worked hard to it put it together and have it released on a certain day.”
Avex Taiwan has yet to announce an official date for the music video release.
