24-Year-Old Actress Strangled to Death in Hair Salon

A 24-year-old actress from China was killed and raped by her hair stylist, who had attempted to rob her.

On June 15th, actress Zhang Yuqing (张遇晴) told her fiancé that she was going to get her hair washed at the hair salon within Yunnan Arts University, but she never returned. Her fiancé Zhao then went to the school campus to search for her, only to discover that Zhang had actually never left the campus. He filed a missing persons report at 6:35 p.m. that night, but received a mysterious text message from Zhang’s phone half an hour later at 7 p.m. In the message, Zhang said she went to get her phone fixed, adding that Zhao “didn’t need to find her.” Zhao found the message suspicious, as the style of writing did not fit Zhang’s.

It wasn’t until the following night when her body was found washed up by the river near the the university’s football field. Huang, a hair stylist working for the campus hair salon, was the main suspect. Huang initially admitted to involuntary manslaughter, stemming from a physical altercation with Zhang. However, Huang eventually admitted to murder after investigators found DNA evidence of rape in Zhang’s body.

According to Chinese reports, Huang was in huge debt, and when he first laid eyes on Zhang, he plotted to steal her iPhone. He purposefully lured Zhang to the second floor of the salon so he could lock the front door without Zhang noticing. He then attempted to tie Zhang with a towel and scotch tape, but Zhang managed to escape his grip. He grabbed Zhang by the neck and strangled her to death. He then violated her body.

Worried that Zhang’s identity would be exposed, Huang poured a corrosive substance on her face so she would be unrecognizable. He then slipped Zhang’s body into a large bag and dropped her in the river next to the football field.

Zhang was a Yunnan Arts University alumna and once made an appearance on Beautiful Rebirth <美丽重生>. She had starred in several commercials, and was to marry her fiancé in August.

  1. May her fiance and family be comforted during this time, but the hair stylist’s statements just do not make sense. I do not think this was about his debt at all or stealing of the iPhone. If you’re going to steal her phone, why is there a need to lure her to be alone and tie her up. I suspect he was interested in her and violated her, then strangled her to death to hide his rape crime. Corrosive substance and a large bag? Where in the world you get all this. Sounds like he’s planned to do this from the get-go. Hope there are no more other victims. If anyone else has been missing from the University, this may be your suspect.

    1. @peachyogurt But he admitted to killing her, so raping her is a lesser crime he did not admit. I mean he said he raped her after. Weird admission.Could be he tried to rape, couldn’t she died, he then violated her body. The thing about phone is fake. If he is in debt wouldn’t it be easier to just kidnap her?

  2. I was wondering he failed to steal her phone so he raped and killed her? I will say BS. Raping was his intention, killing may or may not be intentional and stealing phone is an afterthought and even if is fact, doesn’t deny the fact he killed this poor girl. Next we know, there will be sordid details etc etc to impugn her character etc. Poor poor girl.

Wait!! He killed THEN raped her? Sick! Could be true. Or could be planned. Sick.

  3. This sounds like acting only and confused. So he trying to steal her phone because he’s in a big debt? Does that phone worth that much money to cover his debts? Like some says if he kidnap her then the kidnap money might help out his debts. I’m thinking he’s too pervert and can’t control himself so he rape her. If her fiancée had go with her to the salon I don’t think she can get kill this fast. I have no idea who she is but I do feel sorry to hear this.

    1. @cutie777 It’s common to visit hair salon alone. Yes, the phone = clear debt just don’t add up. And stealing a hp and attempting to lock her up, tie her and use of tape just to steal the hp also do not add up. He clearly had intention to sexual assault, very likely intended to rape her. It is for the forensic to conclude if the lowlife worm killed her first before or after.

  4. Typo:

However, *Zhang* eventually admitted to murder after investigators found DNA evidence of rape in Zhang’s body.
