Ali Lee and Owen Cheung to Star in TVB Ghost Drama

Ali Lee (李佳芯) is beloved for her charisma and acting chops, but her career has been on the brink in the past two years. Although she has been able to maintain her leading lady status, she is limited to filming smaller budget, slice-of-life dramas.

After winning Best Actress for 2018’s Who Wants a Baby < BB來了>, Ali was unfortunately frozen by TVB after making what was perceived to be a politically sensitive comment on social media. Although she was dropped from four dramas in 2020, Ali delivered a convincing portrayal of an android who experiences the complicated human world in AI Romantic <智能愛人> and won My Favorite Female Character at the 2021 TVB Anniversary Awards.

Continues to Film Small Budget Dramas

Due to the financial climate, TVB allegedly wants to maximize current resources and give Ali continuous work as a she is a contracted artiste and is even using her as a spokesperson for their myTV Super service. However, TVB is still cautious and would not cast Ali in any major collaborations with China. Her dramas have been catered to the local Hong Kong market, such as upcoming drama The Perfect Man <有種好男人> as a single mom to Ricco Ng (吳偉豪).

Next, Ali will be challenging her skills as a ghost in paranormal romance The Spirits <靈戲逼人> opposite Owen Cheung (張振朗). As the role requires an actress who is beautiful and has superior acting skills, the producer spent a long time trying to cast the female lead and ultimately cast Ali. This will be Ali and Owen’s second collaboration.

Ali is Afraid of Being Single

Currently, Ali is filming variety show Walking With You 3 <仨心友行3> with Lai Lok Yi (黎諾懿), Mayanne Mak (麥美恩), and Tiffany Lau (劉穎鏇). The three ladies are all single, and Ali fears that she will die alone, “A lot of times you wait and wait, and it gets to a point where you won’t get married. Many actresses are like this! I’m actually very worried for myself. There are plenty of other women who are beautiful and have great bodies. But it’s fate and you can’t force things.”

Lai Lok Yi joked that he is not sure what the world has come to, as goddesses such as Ali has to worry! The actor believes that the right person will appear at the right time.

Filming the show enabled Ali to reflect on her past relationships. When she was younger and less emotionally mature, she may have unintentionally hurt the other person. As she is older now, she is more flexible with her requirements in a partner.

  1. Ali may very well be the only TVB actress left that has beautiful looks and can act………I can’t think of any other female actresses of TVB that come even close………So, if TVB is not maximizing her talents, they are the one who is losing out…………Simple as that.

    1. They have no choice, because of her politic view scandal… i don’t mind that but, TVB market for big production is Mainland China…

  2. Really don’t understand the hype about her. She is like a C level actress. If someone the caliber of Ali is considered one of the best actress nowaday, it really shows how horrendous and scary the state of TVB is.

    1. Guess you fail to see it or your definition is just different from the rest of us…An exception perhaps?

    2. If she is a C level actrice… what is’t a A level for you????

    3. Lmao If Ali is not considered a good actress than literally no one in HK television industry is.

  3. Isn’t she the actress with a ‘stalker fan’? I watched Ali Lee in AI Romantic and Death by Zero, both dramas were enjoyable.
Let’s be real, TVB dont have many great actress anymore…many rather be free agent then further their contract with TVB. Ali Lee is one of TVB more popular and better actress.
On her lovelife, I hope she meets a suitable guy and both have a good relationship.

  4. It’s probably not a bad idea since the collaboration with mainland usually has very poorly written characters or no development. At least these small productions sometimes have surprises and Ali is capable of carrying a mediocre cast. Ali winning the Best Actress voted by netizens shows she’s just as popular as before.

  5. may she be the Queen of local production and may local+overseas (excl CN) viewership of her shows confirms her popularity to naysayers
