Andy Lau and Tony Leung Reunite On Screen in New Film
Any time Andy Lau (劉德華) and Tony Leung (梁朝偉) collaborate together is bound to become a classic. The last time the actors worked together was 18 years ago in the Infernal Affairs <無間道> franchise, which was a big critical and box office success. To the delight of many, Andy and Tony will once again team up in new film, Once Upon a Time in Hong Kong <金手指>.
Set in the 1980s, the film depicts the ruthless plotting and schemes revolving around business elites. Because the film is set during the tail end of British rule, the time period was wrought with corruption and exploitation. The story line of Once Upon a Time in Hong Kong is based on the real-life events of the Carrian Group, which was a major Hong Kong corporation that expanded rapidly in the 1980s, but also collapsed quickly due to major corruption and fraud.
Backed by Emperor Motion Pictures, the film boasts a budget of $350 million Hong Kong dollars with producer Ronald Wong (黃斌) and Infernal Affairs screenwriter Felix Chong (莊文強) involved.
On working with Andy again, Tony said, “The feeling is very warm, because worked on many films together in the past. We’ve worked together from television dramas to films…. It’s a rare opportunity for us to film a movie together again–I’m really looking forward to it. ”
Though both stars said they were attracted to the film because of its “thrilling” story line, they did not want to give away too many details. Andy also teased that he and Tony are in reverse roles as Infernal Affairs, as Tony will be portraying a corrupt character.
Additional cast members Simon Yam (任達華), Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍), Alex Fong (方中信), Philip Keung (姜皓文), Chin Ka Lok (錢嘉樂), Carlos Chan (陳家樂), and Catherine Chau (周家怡).

Excited for their collaboration again but quite disappointed in the casting of Charlene as female lead. I’ve watched many of her movies and I just can’t stand her lazy tones and her voice to take her seriously as an actor. I really wish she would get a voice coach to help with her intonations and whatnot. But even then, I’m not sure she would ever be a good actress to me. Unfortunately there’s a lack of talent in the HK pool for them to choose from so as viewers, we’ll just have to settle. Hope the movie will be good and Charlene’s role doesn’t compromise the film at all.
@gnomageddon Thank you! I agree 1000%, couldn’t have said it better myself. I had to do a double take when I read “dream cast” and saw Charlene Choi’s name. Catherine Chau is a much better actress. For sure the pool of actresses is limited. The problem with HK movies is that they keep using the same actors. There’s a guy, he’s older and kind of fat and has a mole with hair… I swear he’s in every drug/gang movie.
@gnomageddon the rest of the cast is exciting but yeah disappointing about Charlene as the leading female actress. Maybe she will surprise us
@tt23 within the Emperor entertainment group Charlene Choi is the only decent actress they have.
Anyway, looking forward to this as the cast is stellar…
Can’t wait to watch;)
Was super excited to hear about this!! Can’t wait to watch the film!! 0=)
Hopefully Charlene will only be in a cameo like Kelly in Infernal Affairs. The chances of this movie becoming a hit classic is very low if she plays a big role….
