Chang Chen Marries Girlfriend in Star-Studded Wedding Ceremony
Taiwanese actor Chang Chen (張震) married girlfriend Ann Zhuang (莊雯如) in an elegant wedding ceremony on November 18 while surrounded by Asia’s biggest stars.
Chang Chen first met Ann, a Japanese translator, while both were working for Project House, director Wong Kar Wai’s (王家衛) artist management company. The two have been together for four years and finally became engaged on January 4.
Prior to Ann, Chang Chen had dated actress Jozie Lu (路嘉欣) for six years and was briefly linked with singer Olivia Yan (閻韋伶) and Hong Kong model Tanya Ng (吳家欣). He was also once heavily rumored with actress Shu Qi (舒淇). Although Shu Qi denied the relationship, she confessed that she would gladly date Chang Chen because he is a good man.
Even though fate did not make them lovers, Chang Chen and Shu Qi were luckily able to become close friends. Shu Qi was in great spirits at the wedding yesterday, repeatedly giving the newlyweds her blessings. When Ann personally passed the bride’s bouquet to her, Shu Qi was so touched that she cried, hugging Ann while saying, “I am here to support and bless my dear friends.”
Chang Chen held the memorable event at SPOT Taipei. Formerly a U.S. embassy, the historical landmark has been converted into a full service film house that provides conference rooms and a winery lounge in addition to regular film screenings. To complete the theme, Chang Chen invited top names from the industry and purposefully chose to celebrate this week, when many of his celebrity friends are in town for the upcoming Golden Horse Awards. His The Grandmaster <一代宗師> co-star Tony Leung (梁朝偉) and wife Carina Lau (劉嘉玲) were in attendance, as well as directors Wong Kar-Wai and Ang Lee (李安).
Facing such a large-scale event, Ann appeared very anxious while Chang Chen was constantly rearranging his wife’s long dress to prevent any accidents. Fortunately the ceremony completed successfully despite the couple’s nervousness. Speaking about the wedding, Chang Chen said, “We wanted to hold a warm gathering to share our marriage with friends and family, nothing too extravagant….” Already thirty-seven, Chang Chen hopes to have children very soon though sadly must put honeymoon plans aside due to his current busy schedule.
