Chilam Cheung: “I Am a Kidult!”
Forty-one-year-old Chilam Cheung (張智霖) has not aged a bit since debuting in the industry. He still has the same youthful vigor, boyish charms, and handsome looks that have captured the hearts of millions of fans twenty years ago. A married man and a father of a 6-year-old son, Chilam is never out of style. Some say he has perpetual youth.
Chilam happily professed, “I am a kidult!” Like a kid, he will not give up his playful attitude. Like an adult, he will always be learning how to be a better man.
Aspirations
“When I was a child, I aspired to be a soccer player when I grow up,” said Chilam. “But like how our habits change, our aspirations are always changing. Aspirations are not limited to just children – even to this day, I have aspirations. I aspire to be a boss; I aspire to open a restaurant. I’m not always daydreaming. When the time is right, these dreams can come true.”
Interestingly, becoming an artist was the last on Chilam’s aspirations list. “You can say that it was coincidence that got me into this industry. Maybe it was my destiny telling me to do it.”
Talent Doesn’t Matter
The laid-back Chilam admitted that he is not the type of person who will fight for opportunities. When they come, he will grasp them tightly. If they fly by him, he will happily ignore them. “That’s why I think I’m still a kidult. From what I understand, mature people believe that there are calculations to everything. I don’t. Mature people will spend time to engage, and I hate doing that. I guess you can say that I’m the kind of person who is at home wherever one is. Maybe that’s why I don’t have many wrinkles! It’s because I don’t have much stress!”
The most important thing that Chilam had learned since working in the industry is that, besides hard work, one should not demand too much of oneself. “We all must work hard. That is a typical demand. For example, like television ratings – frequent promotions do not guarantee higher ratings. That’s not how this circle works. What is the key to success in the entertainment industry? Honestly, even till this day, no one knows.”
And that is one of the reasons why he hopes his son, Morton, will not become an artist. “It doesn’t matter how talented you are. You may not get what you deserve. As for myself, I consider myself to be one of the luckier ones, but I am just the minority.”
As one of the industry’s luckier artists, has Chilam’s entertainment career been smooth? Have there been any low points of his career?
“My career is not my entire life. Some people thought I ‘disappeared’ for a few years, but I was just spending my time in mainland China to film Chinese dramas. They probably consider that as a low point of my career, but in my opinion, those years were one of my most relaxing years.
“If I lost a job opportunity, I’ll use that time to learn something new. Or use that time to spend it with my family. I am a positive person. I am never stubborn, and I am the type to get upset very easily. I will try to find ways to cheer myself up when it happens.”
Family
“I can see changes in myself after having a family. Simple and subtle changes. I’ve discovered that I am looking and acting more like a father-figure to others. Looking after others became very natural to me. I want to set a good example for my children. For example, I don’t want my son to develop a smoking habit. Although I’ve smoked for many years, I managed to quit after having my son, and it wasn’t even because I was doing it on purpose. It was natural. Also, in the past I liked to stay over at friends’ houses overnight, but now, I return home every night, and with healthy sleeping patterns. None of that was changed on purpose – they were natural changes. [My family] changed me to a better man. That’s a good thing, of course.”

Chi Lam is so hot and part of his appeal is he is so down to earth and committed. A lot of male stars with his kinda looks will not commit to a relationship so openly esp when he started to date Anita in his early twenties. He didn’t mind letting the public know abt it. I hope he and Anita will have a happy and lasting marriage forever

Admire him not just for his looks but for his optimistic attitude as well. It takes a high EQ to be so optimistic and I hope one day I can be as optimistic.
He seriously doesn’t age like many of his stars. His wife, Anita (never found anything appealing about her) but she is quite humorous. She looks a lot older than him now.
Actually Anita was really pretty when she was younger. She has not aged that well compared to Chilam.
Generally women age a lot faster than men, which is why many turn their heads or freak out when an older woman marries a guy that is way younger than her.
Anita happens to have the most most naturally beautiful double eyelids in the industry, from what I’ve read and I do agree. Hers is natural.
I agree Funn! I couldn’t believe how youthful she looked even in the series “Born Rich” with Ray Liu and Gallen Lo! Good actress too.
I do agree she has aged and next to her perpetually youthful looking husband yes she is indeed like big sister/auntie. BUT she looks good for her age and she is natural. You can’t stop aging but can try to age gracefully.
Really? I didn’t know they have such a “Title”. I also feel like she doesn’t bother to dress and impress nowadays. I never watched her earlier works so I wouldn’t know how pretty she was. But I’ve seen earlier pictures so I guess people must call her Lang Lang or a reason.
I agree. For a woman, she looks good for her age if you consider natural ageing without the aid of plastic surgery.
I like her acting too cos she’s always funny in a very sarcastic way. I like her in He’s A Woman, She’s a Man (with Leslie Cheung) and also in From Beijing With Love (with Stephen Chow).
Anita suffered a thyroid gland ailment a few years ago, not sure if she’s healed now or not. I’m guessing that was part of the reason why she has gained a few pounds and looks so bloated a few years back. Either way, I’m sure ChiLam loves Anita no matter what she looks like.

I agreed with Funn and He Tie Shou that Anita was really pretty when she was younger and she and Julian make such a gorgeous couple. Both have huge eyes and tall. And yes Anita has the most natural eyelids but I agreed she hasn’t age as well as Chi Lam but nonetheless no one is perfect and I think she is still very pretty. Anyway physical beauty is not permanent most important is their heart and their love for each other. Everyone will go old one day
I found ppls who has really good cheek bone structure and eye lids (eye socket structure) don’t age well. That cause as u grow old, you start to lose your face fat (body fat, especially for those who try to stay skinny). So it’s more visible that you aged. Maybe cos I’m seeing lots of oldies ATM, I noticed how deep their eyes goes in at 80 xD, n massive double eyelids hahaha
I think Anita has a very outspoken personality. Direct and humorous. Probably she is compatible to Chilam because of her personalities. If she lose some weight I think she will looks better. But nevertheless, I enjoy both their acting. Very believable and real

It’s ok if you don’t find him attractive. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Whether you find him ugly/handsome/cute, he’s not going to be your life partner.

Chilam and Anita comprise one of my most admired couples in the Chinese entertainment world. They are both outstanding artists, responsible parents, and very likeable human beings.
Actually, I seconded Iris! I hope they will stay forever that way. I have no respect for those guys who dump wife and then look for SYT half their age. Hope this won’t happen to Chi Lam coz his commitment is respectable. I read somewhere that his parents were divorced too so maybe he knows how it feel being in that situation and try to be a good dad to Morton. I also read that he was influential in helping his parents to reconcile and remarried though it didn’t last in the end so I guess he is really mature even when he was younger hence he saw no need to keep single status to attract fan base. Such a quality!
agree really respect chilam’s commitment towards anita! unlike other husbands such as joe ma and benny chan who fell into temptations and cheated on their wives, chilam manage to keep himself loyal to anita! anita is so lucky to get chilam who not only handsome but also a very nice guy. surprised to read the comment that he once smoked and that tainted his perfect image a bit but glad that he quit. chilam is hot!
I wouldnt say he hasnt aged “one bit”, but he is super hot. I used to idol him back inn the days he did them drama with Grasshopper lol. Im surprised that he smoked back then, just as well I only found out now or he would have seemed much less sexier. Glad he quit though.
