Francis Ng and Son to Join “Dad, Where Are We Going 2?”

After the success of Chinese parenting reality show, Dad, Where Are We Going? <爸爸去哪兒>, a second season will featuring different celebrities with their children. Francis Ng (吳鎮宇), Gary Chaw (曹格), Lu Yi (陸毅), Huang Lei (黃磊), and Yang Wei (楊威) are the fathers in the second season’s spotlight.

The production company initially asked Chilam Cheung (張智霖) to join the show with his son for 20 million RMB, but his wife Anita Yuen (袁詠儀) immediately disapproved after realizing mothers cannot supervise the filming process.

On the other hand, it came as a surprise when Francis accepted the offer immediately, since he had always been reluctant in the past about publicly exposing his son. Although the participants of the second season were supposed to be kept secret, netizens already uploaded photographs of the celebrities starting the adventure with their children.

Hopes to Learn From Experience

Francis signed up for the reality show believing his five-year-old son, Feynman Ng, would benefit from having to overcome a course of difficult challenges. Past reports have indicated that he is an extremely strict father who easily loses his temper. Francis once revealed in an interview that he had given a hot plate in his son’s hands to stop him from fidgeting during dinner. He hopes his son can learn to face the tough environment in the countryside villages and become more independent.

Besides wishing to help his son grow from the experience, Francis also aims to better understand himself. He finds it hard to control his emotions and often flares up in anger. In 2010, Francis was arrested on suspicion of assault in a French bakery in Kowloon City. He later admitted to the charge and was fined 10,000 HKD. While filming Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II> in 2012, he was also known to have openly raged at backstage crewmembers several times.

  1. A good form of self=therapy if it works to curb or mitigate his anger.

  2. In this show he’d best control his temper, especially towards his son. Not only is it cruel but it will certainly draw more criticism towards himself and spoil his image even more.

    1. True, I can definitely envision his Sam Tong character temper lol.

  3. Does Francis son know how to speak Mandarin, if not, this could be a language barrier for the crew, fathers and the others kids. I believe most fathers and their kids doesn’t understand Cantonese.

How would Francis’s son communicate with the other kids?

  4. The man, the myth, the legend. The dude who single handedly carried TITS 2 and literally kept it floating from drowning. Will be interesting to see this segment!

  5. haha sound like Chilam can’t be alone with his kid without Anita supervise

  6. Francis have always had a very… interesting personality. I can’t even picture the fatherly side of him. I hope it won’t be a pain watching this father/son duo since Francis always seems a bit extreme in his criticism and actions.. might stir up too much controversy. Too early to make judgements before seeing the show, but it’s really hard to even imagine his son having a happy childhood with a father like him.

    1. I suppose Francis have to be away most times to do filming.

So the boy wil spend more time with mother rather than father.

  7. wow just reading the hot plate was uncomfortable… I can’t even imagine watching it when he loses it.

  8. Francis needs to take some anger management classes and a reality check. Overrated actor who thinks he is all that, fortunately for me, I hardly watch his films or series. Never thought he was that a great actor.

    1. LMAO this guy right here. Go enjoy The Monkey King currently on air while you’re at it.

    2. Yeah yippee! High 5! Not only over rated by fans but has a really arrogant face too! Not a fan and never will be a fan.

  9. francis isnt over rated his a great actor actually his under rated

  10. hot plate incident = another incident thats been completely taken out of context and exaggerated…Francis must be so use to this.
There will be definitely be times where his patience will run thin during the show, but I also cant wait for the surprised comments/faces when people see his nurturing fatherly side.
The way he talks about his son, i see nothing but a loving father. Some people should have a listen to his interview with vanessa yeung.

  11. The Korean version was fantastic! So funny! The kids are very cute and the activities and games were really fun to watch. The Hong Kong version was dead boring. Some of those fathers really need a lesson in fatherhood!

  12. Wow this will either be a train wreck or a learning experience. I am afraid to watch…but totally will lol.
I hope that this is more of a learning experience for Francis, in that it helps him to control his temper and learn to be more patient – knowing that all eyes are on him and will be critical of his parenting skills.
I have no clue who those other actors are though, I feel old.

  13. I can’t believe there are so many people out there still doesn’t know how exaggerated the hot plate and “pushing down the stairs” issues are.

    1. dont worry, im sure the show will put those rumours to bed. People will see the fatherly side, its just a matter of whether they will accept it or think its all ‘for show’.
People need to stop believing every negative thing they read about someone they dont like. Also need to stop believing every positive thing they read about someone they like.

  14. awww man, i rather see julian and his son rather than francis.. -.-
